AUTUMN FAMILY FUN

Explore the inside of a gourd or pumpkin with your little
ones. Let them feel, taste and smell the wonder
of the season.

Have a pumpkin seed spitting contest!

Bob for apples...it's been a while hasn't it!

Fill a wagon with hay and take your little one on a
"hay ride" around the neighborhood.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

AUTUMN ARTS & CRAFTS FOR KIDS

SCENTS OF THE SEASON
You'll Need:
Cloves, Cinnamon, Nutmeg
Mix spoonfuls of these spices together. Pour them into a square of aluminum foil. Add a few drops of water and close leaving a small opening at the top. Place them onto a cookie sheet and into a 275 degree oven.
As the water evaporates you will notice the aroma wafting through the house. You can also achieve this activity using a damp paper coffee filter sealed with a "twist-tie"

FUNNY FACED GOURD
Use acrylic paints to make a face on a gourd. The gourds
naturally have characteristics that create a funny face.

LEAF PLACEMATS
Begin with a walk through the fallen leaves. Children love to explore the many textures an colors the cold weather creates. After you have collected the leaves place them in between clear contact paper to make autumn placemats.

Harvest Party Games - for church or school

RING THE PUMPKIN
Line up three large pumpkins with stems, to form a ring toss.
Use embroidery hoops or make hoops with rope and
duct tape. Mark a throwing line on the floor and take
turns trying to ring a pumpkin stem. It doesn't matter
if the players make a "ringer" it or not, reward them
with small prizes or stickers. Smaller children can
attempt to ring an entire large pumpkin with a hula hoop.

ROLL THE GOURD
It's sounds simple enough...but it's quite a challenge!
Use empty plastic pop bottles for bowling pins.
Each child gets three chances to roll the gourd into the pins.
The gourds go every which way but straight.
Lots of giggles for this one.

POPCORN RELAY RACE
Set out bowls full of popcorn at one end of the room,
empty bowls at another. Teams must transport the popcorn
from full bowl to empty, using a measuring cup.
This is a messy game - plan it for the end of the party!
(Note: popcorn is a choking hazard for children under three).

COTTON BALL SCOOP
Fill large mixing bowls with cotton balls and give each
guest a spoon. Kids must scoop out as many cotton balls as possible
in one minute - without using fingers!

If it's little kids I would say bobbing for apples and telling ghost stories. And maybe going on candy hunt like an easter egg hunt except looking for hidden candy. You might want to have someone hiding in the yard under leaves if you live in the midwest. That's always scary. If the party is for adults have everyone get nostalgic about how you used to bob for apples and tell ghost stories while drinking some secret brew that has dry ice floating in it for effect. You could bob for apples with grown ups but I feel like some people will have developed spit phobias by that point and might be party poopers. Music you can dance to is always nice and candy corn regardless of who is at the party is a MUST. Good luck.
Oh wait, and make sure you play the song, "Monster Mash" It's the best!

costume contest

pumpkin shuffleboard (use those little pumpkins instead of the shuttles)

chubbie bunnies- but use vienna sausage and say "mmmm das it goot" instead

race to blow up a surgical glove until it pops first popped wins

eating donuts off of a string (string a bunch of donuts on a thin rope, have poeple race to eat it the fastest without using hands or letting it fall.) This one is funny because everyone tends to be bunched up together and they look like a bunch of pigs at a trough!

Wrap peoples heads with inside-out duct tape and have them stick their heads in a bowl of halloween candy. The one who sticks the most wins.

Break an egg into a clear piece of flexible tube about 4' long. Have one person at each end of the tube. Both have to blow at the same time to keep the egg off of them. Of course, the loser gets egg splatted all over him.

Caramel apple eating contest...line people up to eat caramel apples except make a couple of them covered onions, not apples.

Conjure up a bowl of wet spaghetti, olives, mashed boil eggs, grapes, and jello. Make up a scary story and pass the bowl of goodies around to your listeners that describes the monster's face. Best read in a dim lit room for more grotesque effect and spooky chills.

Also, when I was a kid, we had a "game" where we were blindfolded and led through a spooky house. We had to feel the dead mans eyeballs (peeled grapes), snot (egg whites), brains (cold spaghetti), etc. That was fun and gross...
