A woman should wear any color she likes at her own wedding. White dresses USED to symbolize virginity, but times have changed. Honey, if a white dress were only for virgins...nowadays, most bridal shops wouldn't even carry them.

The tradition of wearing a white dress didn't come into fashion for the middle class until this century. Before that most women work a nice dress that looked good, sometimes even black (gasp). The story about white symbolizing virginity is just that - a story. Think about it, the dress maker wants you to buy a dress you can't wear again. He starts a story that means you can only wear that dress on your wedding day and never again. What a gimmick.

Yes as white means joy not virginity. Ppl that live together, have kids, remarrying, wear white. Today, if only virgins were allowed to wear white, white wedding dress would be a rarity instead of the norm.

As a virgin, I find it very disturbing that on your wedding day, the day about love, you have people wondering about your sexual history. How tacky and perverted is that? Obviously the ppl that say you have to be a virgin to wear white are very creepy and ignorant.

White meaning virginity was a new thing after world war 2.

"It was after World War II the white wedding dress became an indication of a woman's virtue.

Dr Summers said she believes the reason the tradition of the white wedding dress has survived, is due to the lack of romance and excitement in a woman's life. "

Further history...........

Two famous women in history were known for the white wedding dress.

The first woman: Anne of Brittany in 1499. FIRST got married in white as a mother of FOUR CHILDREN for her THIRD MARRIAGE !

The second woman: Queen Victoria broke with royal tradition of getting married in silver and wore white for her wedding to her 1ST COUSIN! Ewww

The trend for every bride to now be a clone is not an old tradition. Even war brides had to wear whatever they could afford. Before Queen Victoria, a woman married in her best dress of whatever colour. White meant wealth and status as people couldn't afford
to wear a white dress as a one off. Blue meant purity, that's why the Virgin Mary wears blue. Blue was the old white of today for brides. The blusher is what represents virginity.

Personally I don't think it should be anyone's business (except the bride and groom of course) whether a woman's a virgin or not(or whether the man is either). People are so hung up on knowing all the personal stuff about everything. Wear white ! Or Black! Or Barney purple if that is your color of choice. The bride should set the pace with her color/colors of choice and everyone else should simply enjoy a glorious wedding.

I think it's rude for people to be concerned with this.

If I had ALWAYS dreamed of a white wedding dress and I am not a virgin, I'm going to wear a white wedding dress even if Miss Manners is against it.

The marriage isn't to impress. It's not even to judge. It's to enjoy. Celebrate. HAVE A GOOD TIME. This is a marriage, not a competition.

White wedding dress symbolizes joy, not virginity. People who think there some "white-is-only-for-virgins" rule have got it all mixed up!

This isn't medieval times when women got inspected to make sure their virginity is intact! It's nobody's business!

Do you have any idea how many nonvirgins walk down the asile in white? if white was the color for virgins, the dresses would all be different colors! There's not too many virgins left! Getting maried in white when you are not a virgin is perfectly acceptable. the idea USED to be that you are a virgin getting married. then it went to first time marriage. NOW it's that you are gtting married. the times they are a changin'!

I am getting married in February, as as I'm not a virgin I am choosing to wear a dress that has a white bodice and a gold skirt. Although I'm not very religious, I believe wearing all white to a church wedding is kinda lying!

Yes.
My sister allowed herself to be forced into wearing a purple wedding dress because she wasn't a virgin.
Well, I'm not a virgin. I am engaged though and my wedding dress will be white.
I don't care what people say, their rituals, or their rules about marriage and dresses. It's my choice, my decision, and I will wear what I want to wear!
I think it is nobody elses business but the bride & groom... everyone else has no say in outfits!

I think all virgins should dress in all white all the time so we can pick them out in a crowd. As for the mystery woman, who is anyone to argue if she wants wear white? Unless she has an ex that will out her lack of virginity in the middle of the ceremony (at which point my dad would kill him if she was my sister) I think she should knock herself out with the white.
