if your friend is familiar with the signs and symptoms of his panic attacks, then this might help.
1. relax your shoulders and become consious of any tensions that you might be feeling in your muscles.
2. tense and relax all large muscle groups with gentle reassurance. tighten your left leg with a deep breath in by holding it then releasing the leg muscle and breath. move onto the other leg. then, move onto the body, 1 muscle at a time.
3. slow down your breathing by breathing though pursed lips like blowing out a candle. place your hands on your stomach to feel the rapidity of your breathing.
4. tell yourself or someone that you might be doing this technique that you are not "going crazy." if you're concerned about not being able to breathe, remember that if you are able to talk then you are able to breath.

WELL I THINK HE NEEDS TO OPEN UP AND TALK TO YOU AND LET YOU KNOW WHATS GOING ON WHEN I HAVE PANIC ATTACKS ITS BECAUSE OF STRESS OR I'M THINKING ABOUT THE TIME I WAS RAPED AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS ITS HARD FOR ME TO SLEEP SO I FINE MYSELF AT SOMEONE ELSE HOUSE THAT I CAN TRUST THAT I KNOW WANT HURT ME YOU NEED TO SIT AND TALK TO HIM AND LET HIM KNOW THAT HE CAN TRUST YOU CAUSE SOMETIMES THATS ALL WE NEED SOMEONE WE CAN TALK TO THAT WILL KEEP IT BETWEEN JUST THE TWO OF YOU. I HAVE ONE FRIEND THAT I CAN TRUST. SO I GET OVER IT BY TELLING SOMEONE .HE MIGHT HAD SOMETHING BAD HAPPEN IN HIS PAST AND HE CAN'T GET OVER IT. BUT IT BE THAT WAY I STILL FIND IT HARD TO TRUST ANYONE AS FAR AS OLDER MEN OR BIG GROUPS OF PEOPLE. I JUMP WHEN SOMEONE TOUCH ME WITH OUT SAYING HEY OR CALLING MY NAME THANK YOU

Please convince your friend to see a doctor because I learned recently that sleep deprivation can be very serious and unfortunately it seems to be increasing. He's probably feeling too embarrassed to seek assistance, but his mental and physical health are at stake and he must care enough about himself to get professional help. Your friend is very blessed to have someone in his life who cares so much. Best wishes to both of you.

Try to get him to open up. Tell him seriously how you feel and that you are worried about him. Make him feel that it is ok to open up so he can finally get some rest. If that doesn't work tell him to do it for you, his friend who is worried about him.

wow, r u sure he wants help? i mean, its amazing that u want to help, thats rele great, but maybe this is something you're just going to have to pray about. Unless you can find a "cure" for what he's going through, you're never rele going to HELP him, except for comforting him emotionally...

go with him to the doctor. he seems comforatable enough around you, so maybe if you go with him, he'll open up to the doctor and he can also get help too
