Linguistic laziness has lead to the word for humankind - man - being associated with only the male of the species. Other erroneous but common misuse of words lead you to hear kids saying a bull is a male cow! We are all 'man'. I believe the word stems from Anglo Saxon; you could be a carlman or wifman or simply a carl or a wif - both words exist today, one as a name the other as wife.
Renaming words such as these just locks errors into our language.

I think they change the ethos of the law enough, with out worrying about wording, besides man is as in Mankind, humans, lets not split hairs the politicians get confused enough already.

No, because wither we re-name it or not, it will mean the same thing, does addressing the homo sapien species as man offended anyone?
A symbol does not have meaning until people give it one – V (from V from Vendetta).
EDIT...
No it does not make down to mans slaughter...it is a COMPOUND word...view the links below.

Man represents both male and female gender. It connotes the human race and i bet women would have fought, scratched, pulled and talked their way through changing that name if it implies any form of sexism. But from all indications; it doesnt!

In English some words are spelled the same but have different meanings. (i.e.) man can be a adult male, also can mean men women and children (all huMANs)

in my opinion it should keep its current name being that it is called mankind from humankind, so manslaughter is really just easier and shorter than saying humanslaughter.
