I agree. If a persons nose is dripping surely a discreet wipe would suffice, rather than honking and trumping like a bloody elephant!

You are right. People in crowded cities can develop all sorts of rude habits. I personally don't like swearing in public, but really nose-blowing is worse because it can spread germs. With that in mind, a dripping nose is even worse and beyond that, covering the nose or mouth with the hand to block a sneeze or cough, then shaking someone's hand is far worse. There are actually a lot of rules for a polite, cultured person to remember.
Of all the things you mention, belching is the least serious. It makes a rude noise, but it doesn't spread germs or odors, but teaching people not to belch in public is on the "politeness agenda" where some worse things-- like nose-blowing--are not. It is good that you have made your feelings known.

I wish I knew.
It's terrible. Understandably, in certain situations a person may sneeze and have to pull out a hankie. Blowing, however, should only happen in private.
During college I worked at a restaurant that had cloth napkins. More than a few times I saw people blowing their noses into them.. it made me want to retch.

What about men who fart on the train? Men who blow their nose with their fingers??? People who spit in the street???? Pick their noses and roll the contents into a ball, which they then eat??? None of this is acceptable, but people still do it (well, ignorant ones do)

In some Asian countries blowing nose is considered as bad as farting ..........should be everywhere in the world because you have a reasonable control on that and its really disgusting

It has been acceptable in the UK for hundreds of years - better than dripping, picking or sniffing. In Meieval times one could wipe their finger on their clothes after nose blowing - now that might be considered a bit gross these days.

Or they can sniff it back and hawk it out onto the street.
It could become the new olympic sport!
Seriously... get down off your high horse. Far worse things occurr in public: happy slapping, muggings etc
But if it really annoys you, please remember when you are lying in bed with the flu and your nose is sore from blowing it for the fiftieth time in the past half hour.
That sometimes when you are out in public there aren't any toilets available.......

Well, some people can't get to a toilet, AND it's better than having snot dripping down their noses or picking them! I'm sorry about you getting all wound up tight about such a little thing.

if i have a cold, i'm not getting up to blow my nose in the bathroom every time i feel something dripping. i think the people around me would prefer me wiping or blowing my nose than to let it drip.
