Is it too much to ask a three or four year old to go to the bathroom before a kids movie and then hold it until afterwards before going again, so that you don't have to get up and take him to the bathroom in the middle of a movie (at a movie theatre) or at a short kids show? (I don't see other kids/parents getting up as much as we do)

Did I not say "kids movie"? I wouldn't consider taking him to any movie other than a short kids movie. I can barely sit through a 2 hr "adult" movie. Why would I subject a 3-4 year to a 2hr "adult" movie? I've never had kids and I've only come into the picture with this kid in the last three months. So I was wondering what is to be expected. I didn't think about holding back on soda. That would be a good idea. Thanks

before you get into the movie choke your child until it passes out. Pick the child up like it is sleeping and place in chair. If child awakes proceed to choke child again. repeat process until movie ends.

I will guarantee this will work

I do it to my son all the time and the little ******* don't go no where. I don't even have to give the little s.hit popcorn or soda.

No, a child under 5 can not sit still through a movie that is adult oriented. If it was a cartoon, child oriented movie, they may be able to sit still for sometime, but if it bores them, they will definitely get fidgety. Little children have a short attention span. Some kids are more patient than others, but on average I would say that taking them to the movies would be a waste of time and money.

All kids are different, and it also depends on how much your child is drinking before and during the movie. I think it is too much to expect your child to sit through the whole movie if you're feeding him or her... but it also depends on the length of the movie. 2 hours is a long time, even for adults some times.

We usually have to get up at least once. You may not notice because you pay more attention to how your own kid behaves than others. But, if the kids love the movie or not, they don't seem to mind if they miss a few minutes to go to the bathroom. Somehow, even though it's a kids movie, I still care if I miss a few minutes. hahahaha

Since all kids are different I would say that it is obvios that it is too much to ask YOUR three or four year old. I suggest you stop trying to compare your child to other's. Each kid develops on their own time. If he can't hold his water through an entire show then that is something you will just have to deal with. Or put him back into diapers.

If you take the child to the bathroom before the movie starts he shouldn't have to go again. But if the child has to go, he has to go. You can't ask a young child to hold it in. They most likely don't know what that even means.

My daughter is 4 1/2 and she has been to well over 3 dozen movies at a theater. Sometimes she has to go and sometimes she doesn't. Its the same for me. I don't see anything wrong with a child having to go to the bathroom. Try not letting him eat so much popcorn and he wont drink so much. Salty popcorn makes you thirsty. Me and my husband used to get our daughter her own popcorn and soda, now she shares ours. And it cost alot less.

It probably is. They are after all only toddlers. They don't yet understand the concept of movies. They will probably last an hour through the movie at the most, unless it is about something they will like. Such as talking animals, dinosaurs, barbie, etc.

Mine loves to go to the movies. We just recently saw BARNYARD. He sat through the whole thing. As far as the bathroom...my rule of thumb is if they must go I would rather they go in the bathroom then for me to clean up after. So, I never mind. It is inconvienent, but they are only little once.
