I always like trying new wines. I've found that almost all the Rieslings produced by Australia are pretty darn good. My favourite was from the Seagull winery. But I haven't been able to find any lately.

You should start at one end of the white wine selections in your local speciality store, and work your way through the whole selection. The oldest available vintages should be a little more mature than the ones dated later.

Why limit yourself to one or two brands, when with a little experimentation you could find a new favourite of your own?

Anything Italian. What tastes good for me, may not taste good for you. Italians make great white wines and they are not expensive. You will have to try a few to see which ones you like. Try to find a cheap wine that tastes good to you and use it for everyday consumption. Remember, if you drink good wine all the time, you will not appreciate good wine. I saw an Italian in Rome buy a bottle of wine for $750.00. I asked if it was for a special woman. He said...never, this wine is for a friend. Woman come and go...a friend is forever.

There are 2 spanish wines:
Castillo San Diego, Barbadillo... a fruity, but not too sweet wine from Sanlucar de Barrameda in southern Spain.
and
Diamante a semi-sweet wine from the Rioja region of Spain
Both are excellent.

Try the Turning Leaf wines, much less than 50 but always well reviewed.

You can buy a large number of really good quality white wines for under $50. One of my favorites is Rombauer Chardonnay....it's a real rich creamy buttery Chardonnay that's aged in oak. Some people prefer non "oaky" Chardonnays, but I love this style.
