If these people have facts them present them. Anyone can make a claim to know a fact, but few actually follow through. If evolution is a fact then prove it. This should not be too difficult.

If Christianity is a sham, or only for the weak, then why are so many people afraid of it and attack it?

Let's have some sensible answers and not the usual dribble.

Modern chickens and turkeys that have been bred to be food don't fly. The original birds flew. That's genetics at work. I apologize if that's one of those sweeping statements to which you are objecting. I neither fear, hate nor attack Christianity. I fear the kind of narrow-mindedness that makes people kill one another over non-provable matters of faith.
Again, I apologize if my honest opinions seem like dribble to you. I wouldn't call your opinions dribble even if I happen to disagree with you.

This is the Religious and Spirituality section, so people of all stripes will come on here to give their opinion, about their own beliefs and the beliefs of others. It's an open debate in an open society on the internet. As for the sweeping statements, they come from all kinds, not just the 'non-Christians'.
As you are so determined to prove your belief system via facts, would you please give us your facts? Surely this is what you are really getting at when you ask for proof of evolution. You must believe that your religion has facts that are proveable as opposed to the theories regarding evolution, which, in your opinion, do not have any factual evidence to support them.
By the way, I am not frightened of Christianity nor have I a need to attack it. There are things about it I like, as well as things I like about other religious belief systems, atheism, and agnosticism.
No doubt you think I am going to your devil, so will you give me a fact that proves this is so? I happen to believe that I know where I'm going. Can I prove it to you? No. I believe that puts both of us in the same position.

Why do so many people, who are clearly Christian, come onto this site and make sweeping statements?

back at ya baby!

Just because I was raised a christian and chose to reject the tenents of religion does not mean that I am afraid of Christians... I stood in church and welcomed Jesus into my heart - since I do not practice religion are you telling me that the Jesus you love would simply abandon me...if that is the case then I clearly made the right choice and if you believe Jesus would not abandon me then what is your problem with me if I choose to question religious teachings? Did not Jesus question, did not Jesus rebuke those who would do wrong in the temple?
The fact is that I have free will and I am free to choose to be a good person or a hedonistic scuzzbucket - I choose to be a good person with a questioning mind...your question in reverse cannot be answered yet I can clearly find evidence of evolution all over the world.

There have been lots of sensible answers to these same "challenges" (they're not questions), yet not many of the christians with closed minds pay any attention to them.
Evolution by natural selection is indeed a fact. I can't prove it to you in the small space provided here. If you really would like to know the truth, then go LEARN about it yourself -- don't just swallow the ignorant and self-interested rantings of some religious leader. Biologists spend a lifetime studying the mechanisms of evolution, examining fossils, tracing DNA mutation histories -- and you want "proof" in one page or less? That's very ignorant. And it also perhaps explains why it's easier for your type to ignore the facts and fall back on sweeping "it's not proven" statements...learning takes work. It takes an open mind. And it takes time. I guess you'd just rather take the easy way out and swallow what somebody else (who's equally ignorant about evolution and is also too lazy to find out the truth for themselves) tells you.

I'm most certainly not afraid of christianity. You don't have to be afraid of something to criticize it, point out its faults and weaknesses, and self-contradictions. The only fearful thing about christianity is the fact that those who profess to follow it fundamentally, while being so ignorant about how the world really works, seem to have so many positions of power in this country based solely on their professed faith. THAT is scary, christianity isn't. Having people who know nothing about a subject make national policy on it based on their religion is scary (and unconstitutional). Having the EPA make decisions about polluting our country based on a belief that "judgement day" will be here any day now, so there's no need to stop polluting, is scary. Ignorance of any kind can be scary. And sad.

Firstly, this is not a christian only site!
Now the evolution argument. Evolution is NOT a fact, it's a theory. It's a theory that's backed up by a lot of facts.
Lets compare the two.
Evolution says that man evolved, in fact that all life on earth evolved over millions of years, a time span that we can't even conceive! That natural selection and the survival of the fittest weeded out weak design, and let the strong flourish. We just have to look around us to see that this is, if not true, highly bloody likely! Just look at orangutans and tell me we're not related!! They even look like us!!
Now the (*insert any religious belief system, after all, they're all a variation on a theme*) THEORY of how we got here.
A mythical force created the entire universe in one working week, with no more than a sweep of his/hers/it's magical hand!

Now both of these are theories, which one seems more likely?

Now you asked for proof. I can't give you any 'proof' for evolution, can you give me any 'proof' of your god?

No, I didn't think so!

This is not a Christian site. There is no reason why anyone, of any faith or none should not come here. It is called Religion & Spirituality. We can only discuss a subject if we have those who are for and those who are against. What are you afraid of? Why do want to silence those who don't agree with you?

Christianity is a religion, one of many. THERE IS NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT IT. It is not the only religion, and it is not only Christians who have a right to discuss Religion. Nor is it only Christians who have the right to discuss Christianity. Nor is Christianity one thing. There are many different views even among Christians.

EVOLUTION IS NOT A FACT. IT IS A THEORY. THAT IS THE POINT. SCIENCE ITSELF EVOLVES. NO ONE CLAIMS IT IS A FACT.

Christianity is not a fact either. It is a belief. That is what you say: CREDO, "I believe."

People may attack Christianity because they think it is wrong, causes problems, has bad effects, is misleading, is intransigent, lacks understanding; it does not necessarily mean they are afraid of it.

Looks like your request for sensible answers was ignored.
I asked a similar question & got a lot of the same mentality.
The answer is simple.

It's because we all have a God-given spiritual need inside of us. If that need isn't filled from the proper source then a person gets frustrated & has to attack others that seem to be content in their beliefs. Then, when they find they can't back up what they believe (evolution) because there's no actual proof, they try to justify their actions by yet more attacks.
Obvious really.

Your subject header question, in and of itself, speaks to Christianity being the only religion that should be allowed here. I find that sad. Now to you're thinking.

"If Christianity is a sham, or only for the weak, then why are so many people afraid of it and attack it?"

Christianity is not what it advertises itself as being. Here is a quote from one of your own.

"How well we know what a profitable superstition this fable of Christ has been for us." Pope Leo X (1513 -1521)

I am not afraid of a house of cards. If I attack it, it is to hopefully wake the sleeping so that they can see the house of cards for what it is. This doesn't come from fear. It comes from hope.

Are these remarks "dribble" to you?

There is an arrogance of unbelief. A feeling of smug superiority. They want to believe that Christian Faith is only for the ignorant and weak minded, "but professing themselves to be wise, they become fools" !

All of the Leaders in my Church Denomination, and I'm sure most other Denominations, are very well Educated Men. They are PhD's and the like, they've been educated in the finest Universities in America. More than a match for these bloated ego's who come on this site for no other reason but to mock ! Beware," God is not mocked, what ever a man sews, that is what he will reap" !
