The pulp in real oranges are supposed to provide fiber. However, manufacturing companies produce some variants of orange juice with pulp not for the nutritional benefits but more to provide consumers with a better drinking experience. To be more specific, the pulp in the orange juice support their claim as "natural" and "fresh" orange juice, making the experience of drinking the branded juice closer to the real thing.

Drinking Orange Juice is pointless, a lot of calories and carbs, but if you at least have it with pulp it will give you fiber and offset the uselessness of the Juice. Funny, I had this discussion today in the grocery store with my husband. I am not saying that Orange Juice is that useless, but every dietitian will tell you, that you should be eating the whole orange, however most of us don't always have the time to peel one in the morning, therefore it's better to drink the juice than nothing at all.

Pulp is supposed to have more bio-flavonoids, which some tout as good for you.

The brand of OJ I use comes in three types, like peanut butter, creamy (no pulp), chunky (with pulp) and super chunky (LOTS of pulp). I like the super chunky.

It is the fiber.

It is some of the best parts of the orange. The orange peel is very good for you as well.
