medical centers are usually more of an outpatient thing where hospitals admit you

Medical Center is a more professional term.I think when a person says hospital they may be referring more to the Emergency Room.When you have a routine doctor's appointment your more than likely gonna go to the Medical Center.When you have an emergency the first thing your gonna yell is "take me to a hospital"
