it seems they come one right after another and each time its better, but still not it. My encounters are normally fairly short. i have a cross out list that keeps growing. do other people go through such a tedious process too?

I got to a point where, if I ended up alone that was okay, because I finally developed a list of MUSTS and worked on reminding myself of what was NOT important. My musts were:
- sense of humor
- intelligent
- emotionally healthy
- nice to others
- comfortable with white collar or blue collar
not in any particular order. They just all had to be fulfilled. Decide what's important to you and be realistic.
BTW, I found the man who met all the items on my list. Now, we are 15 years and 2 kids later.... Good luck.
