Hello. I'm considering the idea of becoming a state trooper here in Nebraska. I'm 25, and have a BS in Communications. My concern is that I may not be physically up to the challenge. I'm 6'-6'1", and weigh around 180lbs. I'm a good height, but don't exactly cut an imposing figure. I know I would have a firearm and mace, but if I was up against some big dude strung out on drugs, I worry about how I could handle him. In high school, I wasn't a jock or anything. And troopers are often out in the boonies with backup a ways off. Anybody here in law enforcement? Any scrawny guys out there with you? :) I try lifting weights, but I only build lean muscles, no mass. I have a runner's body. I've tried protein shakes, but my body didn't like them very well. Thoughts?

ok if you believe being a police officer means fighting and being stronger than others, you got it all wrong

Some of the toughest cops I know were 120 lb ladies

First you learn proper procedures to take down most suspects, and you also learn in training ( we called them 3 min drills) that pure fighting will never win you anything.

So you learn to use your night stick, your mace or your gun. Remember if they are attacking an armed police officer the situation is dangerous.

Next you lean Presence, where you learn attitude and learn to take charge with your voice, ever wonder why so many officers are always accused of being a hard ...... they arn't they learn to take control

Stick to communications! This sounds like the typical cop who was picked on in school and now wants a badge to muster up authority and strength. You'll get yourself killed! Law enforcement requires a back bone! Stick to milkshakes!

You obviously have never watched cops. I have seen five and a half foot women take down six foot guys on the show. It is not about how big you are but how you use what you have. Don't be scared away because you think you are too weak or can't handle it.

women can be state troopers, so you should be okay.. nothing against women, but they are typically weaker than men.. sorry if this is offensive to any women reading this.. feel free to come challenge me to an arm-wrestling match if you are offended! ;)

don't worry.. they teach you all sorts of stuff like Judo and Jujitso and other good takedown skills..

Thats why people attend weeks and weeks of police academy courses and training.

Become a game show host instead. You'll have more fun.
