I have a bad driving record. 2 speeding tickets, a zero tolerance, and a driving on a suspended license. I know, it's horrible. My insurance is going to be about $500/month once my insurance company runs a clue or whatever on my file. Is my insurance going to be this high forever? Or will it eventually go down, if so, when?!

As an insurance agent, I can tell you that companies consider a driver with that many violations a poor risk. If you are able to find a company that will accept the risk, your rates will be high, until 3 years after you got each violation (5 years if it is a major violation). It is better to shop around for quotes (independent agencies do the shopping for you, instead of you being locked in to one company's rate), but even if you don't tell them the extent of your violations, they will still have to run your Motor Vehicle Report, so they will find out anyway. If they run your report AFTER they give you a quote, the price they give you might sound great, but it will go up once they run the report. If you have violations, you will have to pay the consequences, and there's no getting around that. Also, your premium will go down at different ages, depending on your sex, and if you should get married or buy a home, discounts are available for those as well. The premiums don't go down exactly at 3 years after a violation, but at the first renewal time after that. "Renewal" means when your current policy is about to expire and start again automatically. In most cases, a policy runs for 6 months, but you can also get them to go for 3 months at a time, or even 1 month sometimes. So do shop around. And since you are seeing first-hand the consequences of bad driving decisions, hopefully your driving will improve.

I would recommend one to try this website where you can compare quotes from different companies: http://COVERAGE-FINDER.NET/index.html?src=1YAhqE98QEe9amV

Car insurance is actually cheaper if you purchase the policy while you still have an active policy! Some of them actually run your credit report too, but generally most companies will reduce the rates depending on the policy term when you renew it. Some are 6 months and some are 12. Cheer up.. the older you get the cheaper it is.. it's more expensive for guys too!

Generally, after 3 years, a ticket goes off of your record. When you hit that 3 year mark, call your insurance agent, and ask for a quote. Also, call other agents and ask for quotes. They will give you a quote based on a clean driving history.

Also, insurance goes down when you turn 21, 25, 30. It also goes down once you are married.

Good luck,

Stephanie

damn thats an awful lot of money per month for insurance ... ever considered riding a pedal bike instead? lol ...
really tho -- u need to check out mulitple insurance companies and ur insurance should go down regardless of your driving record when you turn 25 yrs old (if you arent already) and / or get married. That is the case in most states at least.

are you planning keeping the car until you ar 99 years old. maybe then. or it could be when you decide to take responsibility for your actions and wake up. how would you feel if you woke up in a hospital, only to find that you killed people including a 2 mo. old baby because you won't do something about your driving, besides complain about an increase in your insurance.

You'll have to be completely violation and accident free for at least 3 years. Once the first violation falls off, it may go down a little bit. Behave yourself! It's not all that fun speeding and acting crazy when the bill comes in, is it?

Yes. Take a defensive driving course, that will help. When you turn 28 it goes down, cause you supposedly mature a little, and when you get married. and if you keep your record clean for a long period of time. Its all based on statistical averages and you met their expectations.

You keep driving like that and you will kill yourself or someone else.

When that happens you won't have to worry about insurance anymore.
