what software do you recommend I use to clean my computer registry?

I use a software title called StompSoft's Registry Repair. This is an effective and easy to use registry cleaning utility that can clean up unnecessary registry entries as well as take care of entires that are corrupted.

I know you asked for recommendations for a registry cleaner; however, I am not convinced that the registry is the source of the problem. Though registry errors can slow a PC, it is relatively rare. Someone mentioned running a antivirus and anti-spyware scan and that is an excellent idea. Sadly, spyware is a common cause of poor performance.

If you still want to use a registry cleaner, there are several free and commercial programs. In my opinon, the commercial products are better than the free ones. I have tried a good number of different registry cleaners, including: TuneUp Utilities, Iolo's System Mechanic, Registry First Aid, CCleaner, Regseeker, RegCleaner, EZ Cleaner, Eusing's Registry Cleaner and JV Power Tools. My choices are:

1. Commercial program: TuneUp Utilities 2006
2. Free program: CCleaner

I find Regseeker and Eusing Registry Cleaner to be too aggressive in finding bad registry keys. In my experience, the 2 programs occasionally listed several key as bad but actually were fine. Registry First Aid performance was inconsistent. Experts will like the advance features but this programs is not meant for novices. EZ Cleaner found too little and does not do a deep scan. JV Power Tools performance was also inconsistent.

Fred Langa, a computer guru who writes for Informationweek magazine, wrote an excellent review of several registry cleaners. He is a very well respectable computer geek.

For five years I have used from, www.rosecitysoftware.com --their, "Registry First Aid". This program is excellent state of the art technology and has never removed a good registry key by mistake.

1) Will backup the registry prior to scan

2) When the program scans it will be checking the registry for errors. All errors found will have a check mark next to a green box, yellow box, and red, box. You will delete all the ones with the green and yellow check box. The red check box is if you consider youself an expert in computers then you can delete the ones checked next to the red box.

3) I actually delete all including the ones checked with a red box. I consider myself an expert with computers. Plus when I deleted a check mark next to a red box, I never had to restore the backup

4) After one day or so and you are sure all your programs are running good, you can go to start=search= open search for files and type in "backups", and right click on search. You will see a file come up, "RFA", open this file and you can delete all the backed up registry keys that were deleted. from the original scan.

5). Plus there are many other features with this program. Registry First Aid, is not free, the evaluation period I think as limits as to just how many registry keys you can fix before you must purchase the program.

All updates are free related a new version of Registry First Aid.

Plus they put out a new letter, "Help with Windows/Microsoft that is approved by Microsoft usually every month. Microsoft allows them to test all of their new programs and give feedback to the general public including microsoft.

For your informatin I have tested all other registry first aid cleaners and they removed good registry keys. It was necessary for me to restore my system in a safe mode from the last good restore point. Never had this problem with Registry First Aid.

PS: www.ccleaner.com (Crap Cleaner is a good free program for cleaning up mru's, and junk files in your system. Not designed to clean/fix your registry. I use this program also.
