Well to start with I don't know if it is that unusual or not, but feed them to horses; they love them. If they are rotten and you have a party you can have a battle throwing them at each other. We all know that when we were kids that we "bobed" for apples. If you want to bake an apple place one in the microwave and place 4 tooth-picks on the under side of the apple where it will stand up in the microwave. And when the apple falls it is cooked all the way through. The same thing works with a baked potato!
On another note if y'all don't mind. Take a "Luah". I seen this done and it was unreal. We had a back-hole dig a pit about 6' deep and we had bricks lined aganist the walls. We then filled the hole with hickory, lots of hickory and set if on fire. We then placed a huge grate on top of the bricks about 12 inches above the burning wood. The "pig" we had was huge, dressed out and slick as a baby's ***. The hog was covered in "cheese cloth", and "tin" was placed over the pit to keep the dirt off. Yes we placed an "Apple" in the Pigs mouth and covered up the pit.
Twenty four hours later we dug up the pit and carefully removed the pig. "If the Apple in the pigs mouth is "mushy" the pig is done.
This was my first experience in this type cooking, but you can place as many turkeys, chickens, deer, or whatever and it will be delicious. Never have I tasted pork like this in my life. The ground was still hot after twenty-four hours. The meat was white, and so tender. The time it took was 24 hours. I am so hungry now at this time at 6:15PM CST I think I will go get a pork sandwich..
Sorry Askew, couldn't stop with this story...Rody

Stuffed Apple With Strawberry Couli
Ingredients
1 Granny Smith apple
2 tablespoons raisins
1 tablespoon shredded coconut (sweetened)

1 teaspoon crème de cocoa
Method:
Core apple, leaving it with some of the bottom intact. Blend all ingredients together and stuff apple. Place on a tray and bake in oven at 350°F for approximately 10 minutes. Watch closely so as not to over bake. Apple is done when it feels tender.
Strawberry Couli

Nondairy whipped topping (optional)
Method:
Blend strawberries in a food processor until smooth. Place on a plate and pipe nondairy whip topping along outer edge of sauce using a pastry bag fitted with a star tube. Place hot apple in center of Couli and serve. Enjoy!

Besides apple muffins, apple cakes, applesauce, apple butter? Here's a recipe for Apple Cereal Cookies & Apple Pandowdy. I also like to just cut apples into slices and dip them into caramel syrup.
Apple Cereal cookies
1 cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cup white flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 cup raisins
1 cup peeled, grated apple
1 cup granola
1 cup oatmeal
Cream margarine with sugars. Add eggs, one at a time and beat well. Combine the flour and dry ingredients. Add to creamed margarine mixture. Add remaining ingredients. Stir til well blended. Drop on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes about 6 dozen.
Apple Pandowdy
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
9 tart cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 cups flour
2 Tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup heavy cream
Place sugar, molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg and apples together in a bowl and stir to coat apple slices. Combine flour, 2 Tbsp. sugar, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl and mix. Form a well in the center and pour in cream. Mix together until dough forms. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and knead for several minutes. Roll out to form a 12 x 8 inch piece of dough that is approximately 1/4 inch thick. Coat a 1 x 6 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray. Place apple mixture along the bottom of pan. Drape the dough over the dish and trim leaving 1/2 inch overhang on the dish. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or cream.

Kilbasa sausage, granny smith apples, red potatoes, yellow onions all stir fryed together. Then at the very last second, add a teaspoon of maple syrup. Yummy. Oh a little tip, cook the potatoes first, they take the longest to cook.
