Yes it is hard to do yourself! I use "Just for Men" 5 minute hair color to hide my grey hair, and it looks like sh*t if I don't do it carefully.
Use a mirror in front and behid you.
Get naked and do this in the shower because you're going to squirt this stuff all over and it dries into hard, ugly boogers that are hard to clean up.
Wear a waterproof watch for timing.
professional hint --get ready!-- massage it into your scalp and THEN comb your hair -- the dye will build up on the comb so scrape it off and reapply it atop your head and on your side burns.
This massage -- then comb -- then massage technique will, yes, finally get you even color and not leave any weird spots in the back of your head.
If it comes out streaky or freaky or phony, give up and go to a salon and get it done right!
Don't even think about trying this when you're angry or tired. You have to be a patient, calm, level-headed technician while getting this goop all over your hair. If your hurried or exhausted, I guarantee you'll f*ck it up!

It depends if your hair is short or long! Be careful when you dye it, though. Storebought haircolor has a tendency to get darker once the air hits it. Like if you buy a dark brown, it might turn black. I do hair for a living and it's hard to do my hair sometimes as well! Just put your hair up in a clip or sections and drop some hair down. Apply color. Drop some more hair down and continue to add the dye. If not, I squirt the color in my hands and kinda "shampoo" it in my hair to make sure I didn't miss a spot. Get a mirror and check to see if you got the back covered. It never hurts to get someone to help you!

first put an old towel around your shoulder. maybe its easier for you to do the back by bending your head forward and saturate or wet the back hair with hair dye solution and massage it gently to the scalp and then use a fine toothed comb to do the rest to give that even coloring. and after that you can do the last and the easiest way to dye the top of your head and still using that comb you can spread the solution evenly all over your hair. just be patient it takes time to get used doing it by yourself. first times is always hard.

try getting a hand held mirror and holding it with one hand and looking into it while haveing the back of ur head facing the other mirror - bathroom vanity i assume - it makes life so much easier to have more than 1 mirror
and really... i color my hair all the time and i have a lot of hair and i have yet to ever miss a spot ... its not as hard as u think it is

How I do it...
Put on old shirt and a towel over my sholders/back
Put all the die on the top of my head
Rub it in and around like shampoo
Seems to work for me (at least if I do miss spots no one tells me.. and trust me, they'd let me know...)

LOL, yes you could ... I have seen this on clients that do it themselves at home, maybe ask a friend to apply it to the back, its much easier, they can see it better than if you try to take a mirror and look yourself

i think it's easier for boys to do. Just spread all over and lather it on like it's shampoo. Otherwise, have someone else do it for you. Since you have short hair, it should be easy for you to do it by yourself.
