I am not sure about the being in a coma for years..
But if a person misses a prayer during the day..that person is obligated to make that prayer up.. you can do it immediately after the next prayer..you have to make intent for the prayer you are doing..
These prayers are an important part of our daily lives and should not be missed if at all possible.....

LOL. No of course not, not if they were in a coma.
God would understand that he/she wasn't at all physically able to.
But as others have mentioned above, if you miss a prayer in one day you can make up for it. And if you know you aren't able to pray all 5 prayers at the different prescribed times (for example.. you are travelling and it's hard to stop many times to pray) you can actually combine 2 prayers together.
And if I'm not mistaken, please correct me if I'm wrong!, Shias say that it's ok to pray all 5 prayers at one time if you've missed them throughout the day. Sunnis don't practice this.

Think like this if you as a Christian in age of 40 years old and then you convert to Islam do you need to make up all the prayers that you left before? Definetely not.

Mohammad allowed for absence of attended prayer due to illness. This is the first I've heard of "make up" prayers.

You'd have to ask a jurist about being in a coma, but if you just skip them, like for a few years, then yes, you have to make them ALL up. You can do it on an installment plan, though.

You think so human.
I would think that if you were sick for sometime, your employer would not want to pay for lost time; however, God is different...he's above foolish human thoughts.
