First of all anytime you buy a used car it is best to get a car fax. This is a document that will show each time it has been repaired, wrecked, or had any type of work done to it.
You may want to take it to him directly to see if there is anything he can do. (always best to go to the source first)
If he refuses then you can take him to court over the car.
You need to read the contract if there was one to see what it states. If it was a verbal agreement then yes taking him to court would be best.

I brought a car from a man that work[(s)(ed)?] with my husband?
[Does it matter who saw you comin? They got their$ & you gotda 'deal'!]
The car was suppose to be in good shape[.] /[T]they said,/
[T]two weeks later[,] the [t]Transmission /went\ [broke?] and the windows don't come down.[No air conditioning? Bummerz!]
In the state of VA. what can I do.[?] [SupremeCourt's jest upda road!]
paid $1200.00, 1992-Dodge Dynasty.
1992 Base FWD 4-Dr Sedan L4 $1,475
1992 Base FWD 4-Dr Sedan V6 $1,475
1992 LE FWD 4-Dr Sedan V6 $1,580
[http://www.automotive.com/1992/12/dodge/dynasty/pricing/index.html]
First of all, sorry for your loss! 8-(
The fact that it's a 'Dodge' should be enough warning for ANYbody. [It'll be about year 2zillion afore I'd buy ANY kinda 'Dodge' on poipus!]
As shown by the mean average price, your $275-380 'discount' will barely cover the cost of the transmission refurbishment & window repair.
Maybe stick wid LincolnTownCars inda phutcha or try changin lifestyle to incorporate public transportation!
Be sure to have a great day, anyway!

The car is 14 years old, the transmission and windows would be considered usual repairs. The windows are easy. Go to Advance Auto or someplace like that and ask the people for a motor for the power windows. The transmission will just have to be repaired. You can't expect to buy a 14 yr old vehicle and have nothing go wrong with it. I'm afraid you are stuck dear. Sorry.

There is probably nothing you can do. Most states have only a 3 day lemon law that protects you from these things. If you bought it as is with no promise of repairs then you are probably out of luck. You could contact him and try to work something out and perhaps take him to small claims court but you would have to be able to prove he knew the car was in bad shape when he sold it to you. Good luck though, that stinks.

You bould a 1992 Dodge Dynasty. You would have done better to buy a honda. Get rid of it for as much as you can and buy a used Honda CRX or Civic.

A 14 year old car, and you wanted a guarantee?
For $1200 you get what you paid for.
As a wise man once said - You pays yur money, and you takes yur chances.

I think you are out of luck unless your husband works as a car salesman, as private car sales are considered "as-is" unless a written warranty is given.
If you take him to court all he has to say is everything worked fine while he had it.
Talking to him in a non-confrontational manner may get a partial refund; but I wouldn't count on it.

Did you ask the seller for a damage disclosure? If not I'd check with your local Lemon Law website under private seller.

It was a private purchase ..unless there was a warrantee in writing there is nothing you can do but fix it at your own cost...why didn't you check it out with a mechanic? "caveat Emptor"-let the buyer beware.

And when you took the car to a mechanic for a check before you bought it, what was his impression of the car?
