Bush singled out gay people and gay marriage because his approval ratings started to decline drastically from the Iraq War, oh and of course because it was election season. Don't forget, he also said that he would back-up stem cell research as long as it was funded privately and not by the federal government, however just 3 months ago when a bill was presented to Congress for private funding of the research Bush vetoed it.
Karl Rove is a madman, but he is also very smart when it comes to getting the Evangelical Christian voters to rally around Bush. They are his strongest group and when things don't look so great for him nationally this group of very ultra-conservative, middle-class, border-line Republican voters, and mostly Southern constituents come to his aid because they believe that he is just like him. He is just like them. He is a born again Christian who believes that the only way to salvation is by belief in Jesus Christ.
Before any hate messages start to come through I am pointing out that this is my opinion and I don't discriminate based on religious affliation be that Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jew, or Cincinnati Bangel Fan *tee-hee*
Don't get mad. Gay people will always have ways to affirm their love. Whether it be by holding their own commitment ceremonies with friends and family and exchanging rings, legally adopting children together, purchasing homes together and fueling their local economies. The crappy thing is for them to be recognized a couple with basic American rights they have to go through much more red tape than heterosexual couples. It ain't fair.

Bush "singles out gay people" for a political stance, and nothing more. he has no other platform, he avoids talking about the important things like the war in iraq and our crappy economy by talking about gay marriage. My oppinion is this (and I am pretty liberal), I think gays should have the right to be commited to one another through commitment ceremonys, I do not believe they need to call it a marriage. A Marriage is something that does come from religion (however I am married and not religious and my ceremony had no mention of religion). But Gays doe deserve the same rights as a straight couple.. Like health insurance, and other important things like that.

Marriage is a term derived from religion. Most people I know do not have a problem with civil union. It's the term married that they have a problem with. I'm the type of person that believes that what a person does in their bedroom is none of my business. If they fall in love and want to unite, so be it. I do feel however there should be a way to compromise between the 2 sides. I for one do not think the person is born that way. People are a product of their past learning and surroundings. I have nothing against gay people and they should have the right to live just as anyone else does.

First off he didn't single out Gay People ever
Nature singles them out as an abomination
Marriage between man and woman since time has been recorded
DO not try and legitimize an un natural lifestyle
Sex is a personal thing not public
sexuality is not a civil right it is a lifestyle choice

I think if they want to have a civil union that's fine, but I still believe marriage is between a man and a woman. If we give them special rights then straight people who live together but are unmarried should have the same rights...(ie:insurance, partnership rights medically, etc.) It's not just Bush it's the congress and senate, too. Everything isn't Bush's personal fault. Alot of people and opinions go into making laws. If you believe tha deeply in it you should write letters to your congressperson and Senator that represent your state.

I don't think it's right because marriage is a religious institution while a civil union is a legal one. But I wouldn't stand in the way of it because it's not up to the government to legislate according to certian religions' beliefs. I don't think abortion is right but I think other people should have the right to choose. That's between THEM and GOD. People get so twisted over certain things getting legalized as if all of a sudden the government is trying to make them believe it's okay too. F that! Let em get married, I don't care. It doesn't mean I have to be any more okay with it than I was before. The government doesn't get to tell me what I believe in!

Bush is anti gay because his political power base is composed of right wing bible beaters. He pulls out the gay card during election season to garnish votes. If the right wing believed in gay rights, Bush would be holding hands with Donnie Rumsfeld and french kissing Cheney at every photo op.

Will you please explain what you mean by "single out the gay people?"
Bush doesn't want "activist judges" to legalize same-sex marriage. I AM GAY AND I DON'T WANT THAT EITHER!!!! I want for legislators and voters to legalize same-sex marriage. I want to know that most people feel the way you do. I don't want for the judges to CHANGE the law, I want for them to INTERPRET the law. And in my opinion, those judges in Mass. were indeed "activists" just like Bush said. (The Justices on the U.S. Supreme Court were also "activists" when they granted Bush's request to stop the hand re-count in Florida in 2000.)
Gays should be ALLOWED to get married if and only if the legislatures and/or the voters say so. Otherwise, we are not allowed.

Following your logic:
Pedophiles should be licensed and allowed to rape children (born that way.)
Cleptomaniancs should be allowed to steal at will
(born that way, and doens't hurt anyone except insurance companies)
Bipolar people should be allowed to cheat, drive fast, and be given an endless supply of finances to spend.
(born that way, and doesn't hurt anyone permanently, just emotional or mental anguish.. if that)
Paranoid Schizo's should be allowed to live out dillusions and act on them regardless of what that means
(born that way, and may or may not hurt anyone.. but not fair to punsih those that wouldn't hurt, because of those that would)
Serial-Killers with mental disease should be allowed to kill randomly in a controlled environement.
(born that way, I know we can't have random killers running loose, but that's why a controlled environment... don't want to stifle anyone's lifestyle because of how they were born.)
etc.. etc..
While some people think those arguments are completely dumb. The point is that it doesn't matter how you are born. It does not nullify personal choice and responsibility. We pass laws to ensure this in our physical environment.. why is it so hard for people to believe that their are laws regarding sin that exist in a spiritual environment.

Bush knows that a broad base of people oppose gays, so he uses the issue to his favor. Whenever he is losing in the polls, he pulls out the "gay marriage" speech and gets people riled up and thinking he's a good guy!
