yes, I had a dog for 14 years and we had to have him put to sleep because he had cancer and was in alot of pain. No dog i have ever had can replace him. Once you have a dog for awhile they become part of your family. It is hard to let them go.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog.

I've felt heartborken over all my pets that have died. THey are family. I had a dog that we had to put to sleep because of cancer. We did everything we could to help her live longer and stay pain free. When she didn't come home one day from her chemo appt. I knew it. I walked up stairs to where my family was and just knew. I was heartbroken and cried for days. I can still cry over her just thinking about her.

Pets are like family. When they pass it takes a chunk out of your heart. I just always think that shes in a better palce running around, happy.

Esp if the pet was a big part of your life, 16 years is a long time. Sometimes it may not seem that long, but your dog was a big part of your life and will always be in your heart. They are members of the family.

Sorry for your loss I know how bad it hurts. I have always had pets of every type my whole which means I have lost way too many. It never gets easier. The Lab I have now is the biggest part of my life and I think I would lay down my life before he got hurt. He is like my son and is spoiled rotten, there is nothing he does not get. But after I lost my former dog it took three years before I got this one. They are a huge part of your life. They are always there when you need them they are completely loyal and loving. And face it they treat you better than most people ever will. And a true dog owner will always understand the loss you feel. My childhood dog was the only one there thru all the rough years, she was my constant companion on the road when I showed my horses as a kid. Often on holidays it was the horses, the dog and me in the barn. And when I was home she would wait by the road until the school bus brought us home. When I lost her after 16 years I felt like I lost my best friend, one of my siblings, and a part of my heart.

Absolutely! My last dog, Sam, actually died on my bed three years ago. I was so broken hearted, I couldn't go to work the next day and I even slept with her collar for a while. I know that sounds crazy, but I just missed her so much. I still miss her even though I have another dog. You'll be alright in time, but you'll always remember that dog. They have grief counseling on line that you might find useful. Also, there are books that are also helpful.

Yes. I can tell you the story.

We were bicycling in a remote area when we heard this "meow meow" coming from some bushes. There was this weeks-old kitten that was apparently abandoned. She was so starved, all we had with us was a piece of garlic bread. She chomped down a good piece of it in one bite, she was so hungry. I put her in my day pack and we bicycled back to our car. Bought some milk, which she loved. We named her "Garlic." Took her home and bathed her and removed all her fleas and ticks with tweezers. Boy, was she infested! Those ticks were swollen with her blood. Poor thing. To think that someone could just toss a kitten out there in the middle of nowhere. People! Certainly we saved her life, she was dying. But, with a little love and care, she turned out to be the sweetest and smartest pet companion we have ever had. She was so loving! I used to call her appendagepuss because whenever I sat down, she was there, stuck to me like glue. She developed cancer at a young age (9 years) and we had to have her put to sleep. The vet was nice enough to come to our house to do that. I held her in my hands as she died. It really hurt. I cried. So, I guess I know how you feel.

I recently lost my chocolate lab at the end of August. I still cry just thinking about him. He had kidney disease and he was only 11 years old. He was definately a big part of my family and while I absolutely hated to see him go, I'm glad his suffering was over b/c at the end the disease was really wearing him down. We had him cremated and put into an urn so that when we move he can always go with us.

:(

Yes, each one that dies leaves a void in my life. The first pet to die was my pet Budgie named Barney. My mom and dad and I took the day off work/school because we were so upset.

Animals are the best. They give unconditional love and loyalty. It is no wonder you miss Lucky.

Yes I had a dog named Tina. I loved her bunches and bunches. She was a tiny little dog that we had for years. One day I was eating a hero and threw her a big piece of the Italian bread and she choked on it and died. I was little at the time- so yes I feel your pain.

Yep, best thing to do is go out and get another dog, and don't look at it as trying to replace the one you had, all dogs have different personalities and will bring laughter back into your life again.
