Especially when my muscles are cold, like when I wake up or something. Basically I stretch my muscle, usually my leg, and then I start to feel pain and it stays that way and I feel the worst pain I've ever felt for about a minute until it subsides. Then the pain is kind of like an ache or soreness for the next few days.

What is this?

Sounds like you are having a cramp? And you are tight bud! Your muscles do this because they are lacking something, and they are tight. You will need to be stretching gently every day to get some flexibility. If you have access to a hot tub this would be perfect. Do you eat bananas? Potassium helps the muscles and they don't cramp as much, also drinking plenty of water throughout the day is helpful too.

Definitely a muscle cramp ... my mother used to call them "Charlie Horse"s ... why? I have no idea. I think it's due to a certain build up of acids in your muscles. Do you exercise often? If so, do you make sure you stretch out sufficiently afterward? Also, if you like bananas, eat one a day, as the potassium helps to remove that acid (or somthing to that effect). Just make sure to take care of your body, stretch gently when your muscles are warm, and try to add some more potassium to your diet.

It's called a cramp. Cramps are caused by an electrolyte imbalance. Electrolytes are the minerals responsible for the electrical activity in your cells. Try taking multivitamins daily that have minerals in them like centrum. When you start to notice the cramping take some extra potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium (salt). Don't take too much either. Electrolytes are on a very tight balance in the body. Too much can kill you, too little will cause problems like cramping and if it is way too little that can kill you too. Or drink some orange juice and eat some potatoes and bananas. And don't forget the milk.
