well, memories will always be with you - as with reality, if you simply dont pay attention to it it doesnt exist to you as where memories have sentimental and emotional value that you can never let go, every memory changes who and why you are the way you are....
this next one is the same as smart people having no common sense and ppl with common sense having no book smarts. that said, many people are blind to there emotions because they are hard to deal with so it is easier to think without feelings, not caring who gets hurt in the process. it is very complicated to be true to both your heart and your mind. 1.) Ever close your eyes? What do you see? Nothing?
Your mind's eye is always open - meaning your memories will always be there when you look at them, while the world outside is only a blink away from being shut off.
2.) To know your mind is easy - most people know what they think, but never know or understand what they feel.

Just repeat the quote a couple of times.
I would say that reality can be seen at the moment so if you close your eyes it's gone. Memories are forever stored in our brain. We dream them .Things will happen and we will be reminded of them . We get mental flashbacks.Can't run away from them. Your mind's eye constantly sees them!
As for your second quote--

Your mind is allways working, when you close your eyes, you can't see any real things, only darkness, but you are still thinking of things and getting pictures in your mind, thoughts, memmories, math problems, pets, everything.
your feelings can overun what you know in your head to be the wrong or right thing to do. Emotions are stronger than common sence.

The first ones means that no matter how much you try to escape form reality you will never be able to get away from it.
The second one means that one may think they know themselves but they really don't.
