I have seen this done in numerous decorating magazines: At eye level paint a wide horizontal stripe along the long walls. If your walls are white or off white use a color like cafe au lait or even mocha then install a picture rail at the bottom of the contrasting stripe and arrange the framed ( using the same or very similar type of frame on each ) and matted photos alternating the heights in an eye pleasing arrangement. This way you don't have to display all your pictures at once and changing the display frequently will be very simple.

I would think that pictures always have to be framed. What if you somehow turned those pictures into wallpaper and put it up.

ooh
First paint the wall a background color, maybe something neutral
Then, take a bunch of the pictures on regular paper or something thinner than phot paper, and paste them on to the wall or stick them on while the paint is still dry.
Then, once averything is dry, take a sponge and pick some similar colors or colors that you can blend together and into the neutral, and start patting down the paint around the edges of the pictures, make sure to gradually switch colors between paints to blend it.
Then, take a translucent or clear glaze paint and paint the entire wall again. This should basically just finalize all you work, and be the final coating.

I don't know,I'm not really into putting up pictures, but I do love painting on a canvas, and multimedia is amazing.

Keeping photos of friends and family is a great idea when you aren't planning on selling your home. The one suggestion that you really shouldn't ignore is this: Make sure you use the SAME FRAME on ALL of the photos. If you don't, all the mix of different frames will detract from the photos and make your wall look really cluttered. I tend to go for the plain glass, no frame frames..., not only are they inexpensive (you can get them at the dollar store in all kinds of sizes), but they really make the pictures stand out. Enjoy hanging them...

According to your budget there are many ways to decorate with pics. For an informal or modern, lookl you can stretch a small cable across the length and then attach your pics to it with oversized silver paperclips. You can get one large long piece of Plexiglas and have screw holes drilled into the four corners. Put your pics on card stock or scrapbook paper, that is acid free and will not hurt the pics, and use mounting tape to hang them in a pattern or design or just in rows. Then place the plexi over the pics and screw it in place. You can change the pics out easily and not be stuck having to buy so many frames. It also will not stick out and get knocked off like frames! You can also buy those collage frames with many diff sized holes for pics and paint them all the same color or in a color mix that matches or goes with your other decor. You can also put the pics under glass or plexi on your end tables or coffee tables for conversation pieces. Best wishes in your new apt!

Unifying the pics with similar frames would be a good idea. They don't have to match, but the same color would be best so the look would be purposeful, not hodge-podge. Another good idea to brighten the space is to use a collage of mirrors. You can hang them just as you would pictures. Use different sizes and shapes, keeping the finishes of the mirror frames similar. It is a really great look that always gets positive feedback from guests. Hope this helps.

How about painting it a neutral color and placing some black and white photos. Or perhaps do a neat "X" or another design with the photo frames. If the hall way is kinda narrow sometimes picture frames aren't the way to go.

I would say you should paint the walls with a warm bright color (Torchlight is a great color for this!) Then I would arrange the pictures (Framed) in such a way as though it looked like a gallery. Maybe with lighting to accent the pictures.

You could get a long roll of corkboard (cheaper than buying bulletin boards...I think you can get it at office supply stores), sponge paint it a fun color, glue photos on colored pieces of cardstock to "frame" them and then tack them up without damaging the pictures! Then you can change it as you want without having to frame/reframe/matte/crop/etc. You could also put up random stuff like ticket stubs, brochures, maps, etc.
