Well, it depends on what you want. If you just want a point & shoot camera, Canon SD 710 is a pretty nice camera for around 400 bucks. If you want to be able to play a little with adjustments, try the Canon A700 IS, which is pretty much the same camera, but is a little bigger (the 710 is pretty small), accepts AA batteries, and has more adjustability options.

Both cameras offer image stabilization, so it helps in taking crisper pictures.

I just got the SD 710 and really like it.

Another options are from Nikon, Sony.

I bought an HP Photosmart 435 for $100 CAD. I was looking for an inexpensive camera that was easy to use. I love it!

Check out the Canon S3 IS. It's in your price range and you'll love it.
