All of the above are correct. Why would you want to put a test version of anything on your computer? If you ever want to uninstall it, take a look at some of the online forums from people asking, "How can I uninstall the bloody thing?" It's almost like Microsoft deliberately made it almost impossible to get rid of it.
Here's another thought. When XP came out, it only took a few months for MS to offer SP1 to correct a bunch of problems. And a few months after that, SP2 made its appearance. The largest "fix" ever to hit the computer market. And XP had been tested extensively before it was released. I predict that Vista will also have a service pack released within a few months of its release to the public. And I further predict that Vista SP1 will be even larger than the XP SP2 was! Save yourself a bunch of grief and wait until you absolutely have to upgrade your XP.
And one final thought. Vista is supposed to have a "smart" install feature. It will scan your computer for compatibility. If your computer doesn't meet the standards Microsoft thinks you should have, certain Vista components (like Aero) just won't install. Even if you are willing to suffer with a slower system, you won't be given that option.

In a recen article in "Smart Computing" they basically said that if you were buyinmg a new computer anytime soon then yes but unless Xp was not doing what you needed than dont worry about upgrading. My advice is stick with Xp until you absolutely need Vista.

vista should NEVER be ran as your primary operating system, it's certainly not a replacement for xp by any means.
partly because it's a beta so it's buggy and unstable, and partly because it will expire in 14 days from the install date anyways.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Unless you know what the devil you're doing (and you don't, or you wouldn't have asked the question in the first place) you do NOT want to mess with freaking Beta versions of operating systems.
Lets not ignore the fact that Vista is a bug riddled mess. (Let us take a moment and remember Windows ME) Tee hee.
