depends...
I think beer and wine actually have antioxidant properties (with Blueberry wine containing the highest amt of antioxidants...so it'd be the best to preventing cancer at 1-2 glasses a day).
Drinking in moderation is OK.
heavy drinking is going to hurt the liver (cirrhosis of the liver, as well as worse)....and you will also be forcing your other bodily organs to take over the liver's functions, which causes those to reach their end more quickly.
As far as cancer...if you drink more than 2 servings worth of alcohol a day, you are going to hurt your immune system, which will limit how well your body can flush out abnormal (cancerous) cells over time.
Hope this answers your question!

If you drink alcohol every day you have more to worry about than getting cancer.
Besides the social consequences, abuse of alcohol kills brain cells which are non-replaceable and abuse of alcohol will kill your liver and kidneys - which makes you dead.
