There are grants and student loans that are available for people who want to attend college, and prison is usually not a disqualifying factor to the best of my knowledge.

Best for him to contact the financial aid office of the college he wants to attend.

He might want to consider going to a community college for his first 2 years, as community colleges are sometimes much cheaper than other schools.

I don't think they will discriminate against your son for being in jail. In order to get grants you have to make an appointment with a counselor at the college and they will be able to determine what type of grants your son would be eligible for. I do know that the states offer a pell grant and as far as gov't grants it depends on each individuals circumstances. If your son has no money and wants to go to school I would commend him for that. It's a step in the right direction for him. I would encourage him to call the local college where you reside and set up a time to meet with the counselor and they will guide him the rest of the way regarding his education and expenses. Good luck and remember that where there's a will there's a way.

First thing he needs to do is be certain that he is serious about staying rehabilitated and following the right path...but good for him for wanting to continue his education!!! the best thing to do is fill out a FAFSA form ...you can do this on the web or go to your local college/university or wherever he wishes to go and get the proper materials. Note: He will be asked numerous times, both by the school and the government that supplies the money for continuing education, if he has ever in fact been convicted of a felony.

He will not recieve any money for his college education.
However, he can apply for grants. Your best bet would be to contact the financial aid office at the school he will be attending and they will give you any information you need. They will walk you through the process step by step. Also check out the FAFSA.com website. He can apply for grants there as well. Good luck and I am glad to see your son is back on track and wanting to go to school.

my son has been in prison many times so I guess I know a little bit about what you are talking about. You do not say what state you are from, so just remember laws and ect.... vary from state to state. In Illinois my son only came out with what ever he had left on his book. Yes in must cases they can get assistance. He first needs to decide what school or Jr. college he is wanting to go to and contact that school's finacial aid department, and they should be able to help you from there. Even his parole officer might be able to help, too.

Start at a 2 year college and fill out a FAFSA. With that turned in, the college will find all the grants your son qualifies for. Also check fastweb.com for their scholarship listings. Good luck to you son in trying to turn his life around.

The vast majority of grants and loans are not available to those with felony convictions. He may receive a very small amount of money, certainly nothing like enough to live on/pay tuition/buy books and the rest.

It depends on what you make.If he applies to college they will have a admissions advisor there that can help him apply for financial assistance.I don't know his age so I can't help you with anymore.I can tell you this he won't get any money because he was in jail. Colleges all over want kids so go to a community college apply and go from there.Good luck

He can apply for grants like every one else and if he meets the qualifications then i am sure he will get them. I was wondering why you said will he get any money?? Don't you know crime does not pay so don't expect a check coming to him in the mail any time soon.

It's called GET A JOB like the rest of us. Or, how about a STUDENT LOAN. Or, perhaps, society owes him a free education cause he's a f** up. He need to prove himself now. Let's see if he can cut the mustard or will he be one of the frequent fliers back into prison.
