children and panhandling?

I need information to give to a teen boy who likes to beg/panhandle

I was never part of it, but I have heard about kids in some areas and cliques who think it is cool to panhandle. A friend told me about kid he saw begging who had braces on their teeth... sort of a giveaway that they were suburban kids trying to be cool.

The only thing I can think of is that they believe it gives them 'street cred', makes them somehow tougher and more 'real'. If you feel it is a problem, perhaps a little tough love or a reality check is needed. Kick them out of the house to live on the street for a couple of days. Not being able to eat, shower, or come home for a free meal and soft bed might convince them that being 'street' isn't much fun. Yes, it is risky, its up to you.

Usually by the time they get to doing that they just don't care anymore.I would say that you can show him u care.Try to let him know that there can be a better life.That he isn't going to feel like this aways.He is going to wish he did something with his life when he gets older and has aches and pains and has to work for minimun wage because he is to old to go to college. Plus his good young looks won't last and then what is he going to do.If he tries to panhandle when he's older they might beat him up. For being a loser.

your wanting to give a teen info about panhandling. instead why not get him a job. a beggar only gets to be a loser and killed sometimes. It is against the state law to panhandle . beg. especially when there is nothing wrong with the person. he is lazy ..

How about getting a job, like a paper route or mowing peoples lawns, I pay a kid $15 to do my lawn!!

In some places i think you can be arrested for that! He should try to find legit work!
