I know I just asked this question but I forgot some details. She is in pull-ups, she sits on the potty several time a day, I reward her with stickers (she loves stickers). She is also not my daughter, I babysit her. I know she is ready but if there is no consistancy between me and her parents, are my efforts futile? If not can you explain what I can do?

The efforts of the parents and you should become as one. Talk to the parents. This child should already be potty trained. Try making a game of it. Put some liquid soap in the potty so that when she goes to potty she will make bubbles..I know that sounds silly but it worked wonders with both of my daughters. Good luck with the talk with the parents and good luck getting her potty trained.

You HAVE to get the parents on board!

Also, I think that if you have to place her on the potty, she might not be physically ready. I'll never forget my grandmother-in-law informing me that she potty-trained her son at the age of 6 mos. When I inquired further (chuckling under my breath) she told me when she put him on the potty. He literally spent most of the day on the throne!

When she can tell you she has to go, or when she runs and hides to go, then she's ready. You'll see the signs that the muscle control and cognitive recognition are there. It would have been more frustrating to train my three children before they were ready than it was to change diapers for a few more months.

When the ready signs appear, take off the pull-ups and diapers and plan on staying in for a few days!! If she has something on that "cleans up" the mess in her pants, she'll be too comfortable. Wet undies suck, no matter what age you are. She won't want to spend too much time in them.

BTW, my daughters trained at 2 yrs, 10 months and 2 yrs 11 months, and my son trained at 3 years, 4 months.

Good luck!
