If you are using it for a living room area I would go with a khaki/tan color it looks very how do you say "ritzy"? And it is not too crazy or obnoxious because the tan evens out the loudness of the maroon. I have a friend who has one wall in her living room painted maroon and the others a tan and it looks gorgeous. I myself would love to use that combination of colors. Gold and cream accents like pillows, candles and candle holders ect. are also easy to find and not hard to try to match like a blue or green because you would not have to match it being light or dark, but you would have to match the shade.
Good luck with whatever it is you are doing!

Depending on the room...cactus green, it is not too dark nor too light...pale yellow could work.....dark cream could work well too. You also could mix one or more of these colors with maroon.
