Yes, most antidepressants do tend to have some side effects...Some are serious, while others ain't so bad. As far as having them work for you, let me give you an example.
I have severe OCD, and Clinical depression, it plays Havoc with my life. I've been on a gravy train of medications, none of them have worked, been on so many, I don't even know where to start. The only thing I'm taking right now, that does help a little, isn't an antidepressant at all, it's a tranquilizer. It's called Ativan, pretty damn strong, about a step down from a horse tranq. Most folks would take 1 1/2 mg's to feel the euphoric and relaxing effect, but I take 8 mg's, and my body is so used to it after all these years, that it only barely gets me by.
Don't want to destroy your hopes, though, some of those medications might work for you,.....Good luck.

Antidepressants do have side effects. I am on them and at first you will have some side effects. It might feel like what you are going through is even worse since you started the medicine. Just give it time. It is my life saver. It may take a month or two to feel normal again but it is worth the wait. You are not alone. There are a lot of us who have felt like you are. Trust your doctor. I had a problem with that and finally went to a psychiatrist, she helped me to go onto the meds. Psychs know a lot more about these kine of meds than regular MD's.

Yes they have side-effects (like all medicines) and yes they make you better. You and your doctor can work out which ones are right for you and for how long you need to take them. Don't ask us this question, ask your doctor. You don't just go to the doctor and "get" antidepressants. Your doctor will decide if you really need them, what dose you should be on, etc. It does sound like you probably need some medical help for what you're going through, but if it is just stress your doctor might tell you to wait until your in a less stressful situation to see if you still have symptoms of depression.

If you are diagnosed with clinical depression, then it is a good idea to try antidepressants. Just be aware that sometimes it can take a while to find the one that works for you. Depending on the medication it can take from one to six weeks before you will see improvement. Patience and determination are your friends here.
Any and every medication known to man has the potential for side effects. You need to ask the doctor what the potential side effects are for the medication you and the doctor decide to try. There are many antidepressant drugs and all have their very own set of potential side effects. Hang in there, good luck to you.

Like everyone else has stated, yes there are side effects to most antidepressants. My concern is the nature of the depression. If it is simply clinical depression antidepressants can and often do help, however someone close to me took meds for depression, and it turned out it wasn't simply depression. She was undiagnosed bipolar, and the antidepressants simply helped bring out a manic episode that just about ruined her life. Check with your Dr. before taking anything, especially if there is a history of mental health issues in your family.
Be well

Yes they do have side effects - any medication does. In your case they should be more acceptable than your pain. Yes you may have to stay on them for the rest of your life. However you may have a chemical imbalance - maybe a hormone problem that could be fixed so that psychotic meds would not be needed after the real problem is corrected.

Depends what you take. the SSRI groups tend to eliminate your sex drive. I take Wellbutrin xl for that reason. I have no side effects from it except harder to get to sleep, so I take something for that too. If you are lucky enough to find a doctor you trust, let him or her be the judge of how long you might take them. And good luck. Being suicidal is NOT fun. Been there!

it is good that you decided to see a doctor. there many different kinds of anti-depressants. if the first one gives you trouble, contact your doctor right away. your doctor will be a trained in what to do in these cases. don't sit quiet when you go. tell him exactly the bad reaction you have. he will know what do do.finding the right formula can take time. be patient and remember the doc is on your side. anti-depressants take 4-6 weeks to regulate your moods. good luck its worth it.

OK, first, feeling 'stressed' is NOT depression
Second, you don't just go your doctor and 'get some antidepressants' like it was candy or something.
Third, in answer to your question...Yes to both. Yes they have side effects and yes they really work.
Fourth, you need some serious help with your spelling.
But to me it just sounds like you are a hormone riddled teen, just like all the others out there.
