Edit: I know it waters it down, but it also waters down pop. So why do people put ice in their pop but not in their beer. I've never tried beer, so maybe that's the reason I don't understand.

The main reason there is not ice on beer is because beer is not supposed to be mixed with anything since it would take its special taste away. Beer should be ice cold at the time of serving but no ice in it. Grab a beer and add a few ice cubes. Drink it and then drink one without the ice, you'll notice the big difference.
However there are a few special drinks made with beer that require ice; the "Michelada" is a good example.

People that drank beer really like the taste of the beer. Putting ice in beer will dilute the flavor. I have know some women that love the taste of beer. it is true that you have to acquire a taste for the different beers that are out there. But placing ice cubes in a good cold beer, not a chance.

Actually beer is best at a certain temperature depending on what kind of beer it is, stout, porter, IPA, etc. When you get you beer warm you want to slowly bring it down to your desired temp. Bringing the beer temp down too fast will change the flavor of the beer as well which is another reason you don't want to put ice in you beer. But to each his own.

If it's a cheap/bad tasting beer, and it's not ice cold, just put some ice in it. It will taste shitty regardless but at least it'll be cold.

Here in Hawaii 80% of the beer is added to a bucket of ice, which should be against the law. It just keeps it cold an waters it down so you don't get smashed as soon.

As the ice melts it dilutes the beer and changes the flavor slightly. Most people feel that beer is best served chilled and undiluted.
