Yes, you are able to get car insurance without providing a Social Security number. Some people don't have SS numbers, and some people refuse to give them, and they are still provided insurance. Insurance companies use your credit information in determining rates. Statistically, people with better credit tend to be more responsible and tend to have lower losses, and people with bad credit tend to be more irresponsible and cause more losses. Most companies will build tiers based on your insurance score, so when people apply without a SS number, or don't have one, you will most likely be put at a default tier, which is usually near the bottom, treating you like you have no credit or poor credit. When you call to get a quote, or are online to get a quote, you can bypass the information to get the actual figure.

It is a new federal law that you need to show a SS card or birth certificate to get a license. You should not have any trouble getting a SS card. People coming across the border from out south seem to have no trouble and since it is required in our state to have insurance they have found a way to get it.

You'll need a green card or visa to show that you're here legally.

You only need proof of legal status. Your visa and passport will provide that proof.
