my mother in law is a nightmare too, she has an excuse for everything he does. He starts talking to another woman....then im not giving him enough attention.....he says horrible things.....then i said them first.
she has an excuse for everything he does, and when i say something he has done, she goes and tells him and then they plot an excuse together!
i dont understand them either...all i know is that when my 2 boys are older, ill be on their partners side cos i will know how i felt!!

My goodness what on earth was your MIL thinking? I can appreciate she is from an older culture, however this does not excuse her behavior! Am I right in assuming she lives in the US too? If so her actions are even more deplorable as she would know the reasonable way you should be treated. Had she been visiting fr India then I could of understood her action/s a little, due traditions, values & way of life. You aren't going to win this battle with a 'fisticuff' style of argument. You need to sit down with her (not on your own). Have your husband present or if this is not permissible in US/Indian culture another non-biased female. You need to clarify exactly how you feel & ask that she treats you with a modicum of respect. After all each human being no matter their age should treat people like they would treat themselves. Perhaps a gentle reminder of this phrase may help? Tell her you appreciate her efforts to assist you (even if you don't - it will massage her ego) in your marriage but would prefer she let you & your husband resolve issues privately. Unfortunately, you can't pick your relatives but you can choose your friends. MIL's by definition are difficult most of the time no matter where you come from as they will always come back @ you with "I only have my son's interests @ heart". You are not a housemaid loser, do not let anyone @ anytime try & make that inference. Your MIL is trying to instill outdated Indian traditions in an unpleasant manner. If you cannot come to some sort of mutually respectful agreement then stay out of her way as much as possible. Incidentally, you don't mention what your husband's attitude of his Mother's treatment towards you is? Does he agree with her or with you - he's in a tough spot as his Mother raised him & he would respect her, but he married you & therefore the wife should be held in the higher respect out of the two. Good luck, it's a difficult road, but you will work it out - it takes time believe me. Take care & god bless.

Mothers-in-law aren't hard to understand ... they are just normal people like we all are. Mothers never "let go" of their children, so will frequently seem to be "interfering".

Strangely, I am the only one in our "extended family" who gets on with my MIL ... she's awkward sometimes, but I know how to treat her. If she oversteps the mark, I'll tell her off & she'll accept it OK.

On the "strange" side... she used to turn up a lot without checking first to see if it was OK, or that we were at home. It pissed me off a bit, so I thought I'd stop her. As I spend most of my time at home naked in the warm weather, the next time she called, I opened the door to her w/o putting shorts on.

Plan backfired! She now calls EVEN MORE, cos she liked what she saw (being divorced, she doesn't get much male company LOL) and is quite happy to see me "au naturel" :o). Dohhhhh!

Because is her son that's why. She is not looking at the problem from a woman's point of view but as a mother, and a mother is always looking after her child. Just stop moaning about him in front of her.

They ALL do it. I think it's a love thing or something. They don't like the thought of their son/daughter having feelings towards anyone else other than them. They Know exactly how you fell when they're doing it too! I think they want you to question your feelings towards them.Or maybe they just want to piss you off so you leave and they can tell their Son/d "I told you they were no good for you"..............

Girl you know better, that is their jobs to be a pain in the butt...but you too know better not to tell his family members anything negative about your husband, keep your business to yourself...some Mother-in-laws won't ever be your friend..so see less of her,

Of course she is going to defend her son when you talk trash about him. It's a mother's instinct! Don't ever go to an in-law to vent about your spouse. Talk to your girlfriends!

Mother-in-laws are evil demons from an alternate universe, sent to earth to make the lives of wives difficult and nearly unbearable.
They feed on weakness and tears and seek to make their precious little boys the rulers of the world.

RUN....RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!!!!
