I feel so bad. I was at a local mall-and there were a bunch of kids (15-16 or so) in line. In front there was another girl anout the same age. Very preety with long dark hair. Well the teens behind put gum in the other girls hair without her knowing and they thought it was the funniest thing ever. I was shocked that people are really like that. Why would you do that to her lovely hair? Does anyone else think that this was a disgusting act or am I over reacting? I felt so bad for that girl.

What you feel is guilt for being good, but also guilt for not doing anything.

I bet you were thinking I don't want to get involved because this was a bunch of kids, and you were alone, so therefore didn't want to do anything about it.

BUT, you still could have pulled her aside when the group wasn't there, and said those group of dorks put gum in your hair. And ask the cashier of they had a pair of scissors and assist her then without anyone noticing. That would be the thing I would do.
Because if these kids are cruel, no telling how a GROUP would act towards you if you spoke up.

Touchy situation, but YOU could have accomplished something!

I would have asked a mall employee to get a security guard there right away...what those kids did amounts to assault and they should have been dealt with by the authorities before their "playful pranks" if that's what they think this was, escalate into something worse. They attacked an innocent girl and a few months down the road they might think a little sexual assault would be funny.

That is a bit immature and shouldn't ever have been done although kids will be kids. It is a bad thing....I wouldn't want gum in my long blonde hair either. Next time, say something, step up to the plate...I would.

why is it that people consider themselves nice but when it is time to really step up and be a good samaritan, they choke or simply think they are to cool to get involved. You did not have to confront the boys but you could have atleast told the poor girl, imagine her walking around with that gum in her hair, or worse imagine her sitting down or something and mashing more hair into it!
gosh this really made me sad:(

sorry to say this but if you are not a part of societies solution then you are just a part of societies problems

if i were u, (next time :D), i would tap the GIRL very nicely and say, "i'm sorry, but i think these rude, immature children just stuck gum into your hair! i just wanted to let u know so it doesn't get too stuck", glare at the kids, and walk away. or u could look at them like, omg they are SO immature! either way, don't personally try to take on the rude ones, but i say try to help the nice one next time.

at the same time, it's not YOUR job to save everyone "in need" so to speak. kids and teens go thru this process in life, and they mature somehow thru it. i think if u were nice to that girl, it would've reinforced at least someone, a stranger, cares, even if those rude kids didn't. try Positive reinforcement, and ignore the negative things. when u tried to single them out later (i read your other post), they are taking that Attention (even though u were disciplining them) as Funny, and that's not waht u want to do. just ignore them next time, thier parents need to discipline them, not you. good luck! :) u are truly a good samaritan at heart

I would have embarrased the hell out of them and said REALLY LOUD "HOW CAN YOU DO THAT! LOOK AT HER HAIR. EVERYONE, LOOK AT WHAT THESE BOYS DID TO HER HAIR!!!" I would have made sure that I got other people's attention and made a scene.

I would have made a scene to point out how immature they were being. I've done it before when this one kid was pointing at a mentally retarted kid in a wheelchair making fun of him. I got up walked over to him, lectured him as he was sitting in the food court, then I got on a chair and stood up and got other people's attention and made him pay for it and say he was sorry. Kid's face turned red and he walked out of the food court. I made a scene. It was great! The kid will never make fun of a retarted kid in a wheelchair again in public!

that would have embarrased them so bad. taught them a lesson too.

next time, serve up justice the hard way!

Well.....they are rude and proably jealous of her hair or something lol. But there are people like that...I seen a lot of them. You're not over-reacting and you could of told her something or told off those stupid kids or something like that....but thats the past now, nothing you can really do about it now...well u can still find those kids if u go to the mall or something again and tell them off. Thats what I would really do...for real girl! I would really tell them off if they did something like that to another person especially if they did it to me :p

You should have said something and no you are not overreacting. That is a form of bullying. They are probably jealous of her. When I was younger my hair was mid-back and other kids would pull my hair and put that orange cheeto stuff in it on the school bus. This kept happening until I had enough and kicked this boy's a$$ after he pulled my hair.

If you see something like that again, for your own sake, you need to do something. You don't need to confront the bad guys...go to the victim. You could have gone to her, gently told her what was going on and offer to lend a hand. Give them a dirty look or avoid looking at them completely. I have taken it on the chin a couple of times for standing up for what is right and find it rewarding in the long run.

It is disgusting..teens can be really cruel..glad I am through that part of my life.

Why didn't you tell the girl? Why didn't you say something to teens who put the gum in her hair?

Wouldn't you want someone to tell you?
I am not condemning you..or judging you..just wondering what made you keep silent.
