Spanking is not ABUSE!! It is discipline, I was spanked as a child and i lived to tell about it, same goes for my children, my son knows what a spanking is and he also knows he needs to listen if he doesnt want one. There is a BIG difference between spanking and abusing. I am all for the spankers of the world!!

No matter what you tell the child the consequences will be to their actions, you MUST follow through. Telling a child that they will lose a priviledge for an action, but not actually taking it away kills your credibility as a parent.
Spanking doesn't always work. It can be effective as a suprise tactic in some cases, like to avoid injury. (Child goes to put hand on hot stove, you spank to stop them. Injury avoided.) But in general, loss of a priviledge or beloved event (play date, tv time, etc.) proves to be more effective as a consequence.

I have said it and spanked him too. For the really bad things. I don't beleive in leaving marks but letting him know you are in charge is important and kids today have no respect. I don't think it is abuse, it a way to help behavior. My parents spanked me and I had respect for them and still open doors for older people and have manners. I am sure without the spankings, I would be a brat like some of the kids today.

I have not spanked my child. I don't believe it does any good in the long run. It's hard to find alternative methods of discipline(taking away priveleges is one...), but I was spanked as a child and all I remember is hating my father after he did it, I was so humiliated. I don't think I would have turned out any worse if he hadn't spanked me...

Not really a story to tell...normally I use a spanking (on the butt) as a very last resort if talking to my child, doing a count down and then giving a time out if the behavior continues doesn't seem to work. Normally talking and the count down works because he knows that after I count down from 5 that if the behavior doesn't stop, he goes into time out (in a time out chair, not in his room to play) and he hates that.

I lock my child in the closet. It teaches him patience and night vision, which will be two important skills when he drops out of high school and works the late shift as a security guard. It's the only thing that little kid will ever be good at.

Hell YEAH!!! And when they don't listen...I follow through! It hurts my hand more than the meaty part of their little butts...It's called discipline!! Not child abuse!!
I'm sick of people saying that spankings teach violence...NO!! It shows a child that they have crossed that ONE line...Time outs are great for yuppy parents...and parents who want to have children walk all over them...but tell a child their little butts will be sore...is sometimes ALL they need to HEAR!! My children are well behaved and respectful...
Putting children in time out and telling them to "THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO DESERVE THIS"...means to the child..."GEE...figure out a way NOT TO GET CAUGHT NEXT TIME!"
My parents only spanked us when we did what we were told NOT to do like a million times...we pushed them to it...and ya know...at the time..yeah, I was upset with them...said I hated them...but as I grew up...realized..Hey I was the little **** who deserved to get it...
Prime example...just now...I've told my 2.5 yr old NOT to open the screen to the window..cause he will fall out...caught him doing it...spanked his little diapered butt once..he cried looked at me and walked away...when he went near the window again..I just had to say Don't do it..and he rubbed his butt and walked away...

i also do not tell my children, i spank them. it says in the BIBLE, spare the rod, spoil the child. i will not have my children growing up like the rude, little buttholes in my town have. my girls get disciplined the right way, with a spanking. and it has done wonders. my girls listen to me, and they are respectful, they don't talk back. i have to say, i have pretty damn good well behaved girls. thankx to spanking. :)
