Well I've dealt with Security Forces for the past year, waving at them from a distance, mostly. They're good people. You can get good training depending on the installation you're assigned to as well. They do deploy and it's a lot of long hot hours under the sun when they do. I even thought about it for a while until I decided it wasn't the most advantageous career path once you leave the military.

The best job is really the one you can take the most advantage of, and what leverages your skills into gainful employment after you leave the service, while providing you with decent avenues of promotion while you're serving. No job is greater or lesser than any other, unless you're looking at straight paycheck. But if it was just about income, hardly anyone would be in the military today.

Everybody hates security forces these days, too many deployments, standing at the guard gate, standing on the tarmac in mountian home Idaho.
Admin work is mostly inside, and usually has regular hours, but the priority and lives of 100 shot up combat troops can be lost on your desk. Both are important jobs

That's a night and day difference. It's comparing apples to oranges. Do you want to push paper all day long, actually now days sit in front of a computer most likely wearing blues or would you rather spend your shift with a pistol strapped to your thigh wearing BDUs and a beret driving around base issuing tickets or pulling guard detail on the flight line. I'd chose something more challenging (and did).

I only know that a lot of people hate being in the Security Forces, all they do is stand all day guarding a gate or something.

Its all what you want but they are complete opposites.

Admin you will work mon-fri and sit at a desk.

SFs you will work shift work (days or nights 24/7) and you will be either doing patrol or checking IDs....

I never thought guard duty out on the tamarack on a 100+ deg day would be much fun

It depends on which kind of work you would enjoy more. They are very different kinds of work. However, if you want to talk in terms of safety for yourself.. I'd go with Admin. work. Good Luck ! :)

My husband is in security forces and doesn't really like it much. He is trying to re-train. But I guess it is up to you... If you like law enforcement, you may like it.
