I have a 14 yo dog that went deaf several years ago (if you had as many shotguns go off over your head as he has, you would be deaf too)
Believe me he still hears every thing I say (but don't ask me how)
So I still call him by his name

what do you call a deaf person????? They, if you have the patience, can be taught sign languagd (hand signals) there are people who will work with you and show you how to train them.
