Go to a Dr and ask - You are very lucky to be here at this time in history when I was a kid they just shaved you head - It works - very well but it's not a nice way to do things.
Now I think they have a shampoo
As for transmission - just stay away from people don't share combs or brushes etc
Oh and lice is not a comment on your hygiene Lice actually prefer a clean head to infest - You had bad luck , but as I said don't share things

There is no definite way to keep from getting it ,one must be vigilant and check daily. I find when one has young kids in grade school infections are more common. As a preventative I keep a bottle of tee tree oil and shampoo in the house. It does not work well at removing an already active infestation but can make the hair less interesting to the critters.
I just got over one here so annoying and gross. O_O
PS I hate when people say it has to do with not being clean that is so far off the facts. These bugs prefer clean hair much easier to get to the food they want to eat. Anyone in contact with an infected person will get it. ANYONE. So being clean is great but it won't keep these critters away. Do not share hair accessories, hats, combs, I almost forgot this is a much better treatment to rid the bugs with out being toxic. The doctor who found this out thought he would get rich calling it nuvo. He now has instructions on his site for FREE

Hi. We had an infestation last fall/winter, and you have to go to the pharmacy and get some medicated shampoo specifically for lice. The type we used had to shampoo your hair immediately to kill any live ones, and then again in 3 to 4 days to kill any that hatched. My suggestion would be to visit your local public health center to have them check your hair if you have no family members that can pull the eggs off your hair. As well wash everything, pillows, sweaters, bedding and put your brushes, combs, hair tyes, in the freezer overnite in a bag and this should get rid of them. Be persistent, and good luck.

Ok first ya got to get rid of it. Use mayo. put tons of it in ur hair and let sit for 10 mins, the oil in the mayo is so heavy it smothers and kills the lice . Use the special comb you can get for lice. and comb them out. But you got to remember, you can't get rid of head lice just by treating your hair. you have to strip your beds, spray everything down with some rubbing alcoh. soak your combs and brushes in some bleach water. bag up any stuffed animals. wash your hats, coats.. everything. And remember , its not a shame to have head lice but it is a shame to keep them.

I had lice and it took forever to get rid of, I had to cut my hair short and do the lice killing shampoo and comb out all the eggs and then do it all again in a week.

i have had lice before and i would say the best way to prevent it is to not use anyone elses hair products or anything that would touch another persons hair or get close to it

you can not prevent what you already have
ok, i think someone should go get you a special shampoo for that, and a special comb. And it would not hurt for you to cut your hair a little just so you can manage and clean it more easily.
