I have been friends with someone for a few years. We dated for a bit and he decided to stay with his long-term and live-in girlfriend. Yet he can't admit to me "it's over" and that he wants to stay with her. He still flirts with me and thinks there may be a chance for us "one day" What's up with that?? He says he wants us to be friends yet he still flirts with me (daily...we work together) and says he loves me and has strong feelings for me.

If he loved me, he wouldn't be with her. Why can't he just tell me "it's over" and let it go?? (we have not slept together so it's not about that).

Well he is hoping for u guys to sleep together... some guys look for what they don't have at home. And flirting might be something he likes to do.. something that makes him feel good... And by u allowing that there is no reason for him to say its over... y because there is nothing there. He doesn't have to say that u know. But like i said u allow him to say those things,,, don't chu??? Tell him that its not right for him to say that and put an end to it... If not he will never stop..

Maybe he thinks that it will ruin your friendship if he tells you it's over. It is possible to be in love with two people at the same time. Good Luck!

It sounds like he wants the best of both worlds. He wants to get his new girlfriend and still keep you. Therefore, you are the one who needs to tell him that it's over.

He's keeping you on reserve. Flirtation is also reassurance that one is still attractive. Maybe he needs that. He may also just be looking to cheat, but wants you to initiate it.
