Please, I've had canker sores my entire childhood and extending now into my twenties. I'm not talking about cold sores, these are cankers inside the mouth, sometimes even on my tongue. Does anyone have anything they know works? I've heard canker sores are stress-related, I've heard they're an imbalance of PH. I've heard all kinds of things. I don't know what causes it. If you do, please share with me the common causes and remedies. Thanks

My 7 yr old gets them too, constantly...stress, food allergies, and agitation in the mouth can set them off, but all the research i did, it seems no one really knows for sure what causes them.. they say to increase your B12, and use warm salt water to help them heal faster..but unfortantly it seems all these scientists, and doctors, and they can't come up with any more info on them than that.

Avoid using any toothpaste with foaming ingredients such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, or anything that sounds like it. Avoid Fluoride, and avoid mint - for reasons unknown, those things can aggravate canker sores in people who are prone to them. There is a really easy way to see if avoiding those things will help you.... Try brushing with plain old table salt several times a day for a week and see if the number of sores is reduced.

I have heard that canker sores can be controlled outside the mouth, say the lips by either clorox, or eather at the start. inside the mouth; just don;t know. Now I have had those tiny white pimples on the end of my tongue and I would bite them and sure enough it hurt very bad. We call them "lie bumps"

The vitamin L-Lysine helps them heal faster and in some cases prevent them if taken daily. I am not sure about preventing them (no first hand experience) but I take it when I have them and it helps heal it faster. Also use warm water with some salt to rinse your mouth.

There is a new oral viral medication out, It is in tablet form and took care of the problem in about 3-4 days. My dentist gave it to me. Might be worth looking into.
