For some it does because it satisfies an oral fixation that others satisfy with food. But really you're trading one crutch for another and possibly gaining lung cancer too. Healthier eating habits and a half hours walk every night would be better for her.

It's not true. I know plenty of smokers who are fat! And if she likes eating, she will now both smoke AND eat! Trust me (I'm a smoker), that's not going to work. And if it does, that's not because she started smoking!

AND if you stop smoking, the only reason you'd put on weight would be because you eat instead of smoking. That can be prevented by drinking water instead of eating (I know, it's not as satisfaying...!).

Anyway. Please, tell your friend that's a really stupid idea! I've been smoking for a while, and it's NOT a pleasure: it's an addiction.

You want eat as much, but it don't help you lose weight. All it will do is cause you to get mouth or throat cancer. Good for you, never start smoking, it is a hard habit to kick. I know, because I am a smoker.

For those that have an oral fixation and would be eating something otherwise it can help a tad but the couple of pounds lost is not worth the health problems of smoking. Tell her to join a gym.

It dulls the taste buds. Tell her to try Slim Fast. Eat lots of brown rice and watermelon. If she drinks enough fluid the rice expands in the stomach and you'll feel full. The watermelon has little calories and fills you. If she continues smoking she WILL lose weight..............the cancer treatments will make her so sick she won't be able to keep food down.

The corniest and most deadliest excuse to get started on that habit.

It does not help you lose weight. The more you smoke, the less you eat, it atrophies your taste buds therefore you need stronger and spicier flavors. Really, it is not a healthy alternative to smart eating, good nutritition and exercise.

Nicotine is a stimulant, and stimulants usually do suppress appetite, yes. I think trading your weight for the cancer risk is awful. Try to convince your friend to stop before she's addicted, if that's possible. Try to convince her anyway.

Tell her that if she smokes enough all her weight problems will be over. She will die from lung cancer!! You must tell your friend that her idea is stupid.
