Rene's Coleslaw Recipe
courtesy Paula Deen

5 cups shredded cabbage
1/2 cups almonds, toasted
1 1/2 cups dried cranberries
1/2 cup celery, diced
1/4 cup chopped green onions, white and green parts
1/2 cups chopped green bell pepper

Dressing:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon honey mustard
1 tablespoon honey
Salt and pepper

Combine cabbage, almonds, cranberries, celery, green onions, and green pepper in a large plastic bowl with a snap-on lid. Combine all dressing ingredients, adding salt and pepper to taste, and refrigerate until ready to serve. Pour dressing over slaw just before serving. Stir well.
Two schools of thought either diced or shredded green cabbage.
You can personalize your recipe by adding coarse grated carrot, bacon bits, coarse grated zucchini...
The craisins are a sweet and colorful addition.
The basic recipe is cabbage, onion, carrots and the dressing.

That's a good basic coleslaw recipe. Don't forget salt and some black pepper. If it is to put on sandwiches or hotdogs that's all you need. If it is a side dish I add grated carrot. The carrot makes it more attractive and sweeter. I also add a touch of prepared mustard and sometimes a little tabasco or some other similar hot sauce.

You can make the dressing from those ingredients or u can buy cole slaw dressing. You will find it in refrigetrator section or in condiments aisle. Then you jsut mix the dressing with the cabbage slaw mix. I would recommend chilling the dressing first. Be sure not to put too much dressing and make it soupy. Add some to mix and taste and add more until it is good to you. Pretty simple....enjoy
