It took my husband almost a YEAR to find a "decent" job here, he had to work at McDonald's until someone finally called him back. He went to college AND has experience. THEN, the pay isn't all that great and when you go to look for an apartment thats NOT in the ghetto you are looking at at least $650 or up to $850 a month.. that is just rediculous. Anyone else with me on this, feel the same way?

It isn't just St. Joe that sucks, it's the whole damn state.

Sounds like Hudson, NY, where an apartment IN the ghetto costs $850/ month +utilities! Compare to upsate where a 2 BR apartment costs $425/ month heat/HW included.

While it's true you create soem of your own luck, soem places are certainly much more conducive to positive thoughts than others. How do the people there treat you? That to me is the making or breaking point. I can be poor in a freindly town and prefer it to middle class in a miserable town. Never been to Missouri but have lived in at least 12 different towns across PA and NY. Each one has its own distinct personality, some friendlier than others. Do you have to stay where you are? Most of the folks I know from Missouri are very nice people. My guess is they probably don't live in St. Joseph... LOL. Try seeing if the rent is any better one or 2 towns over. And go where children are appreciated. taht's my rule of thumb for judging a place. Good luck to you!

Well I am from Arkansas and have been in your state many a time, it's pretty but like many southern states over crowded and under paid. A store clerk makes around $12 an hour where I live now why even a gas station attendant makes around that here. A wielder $30 and up, a truck driver around $30 an hour, carpenter from $19 and hour to $36.

Plus since we live in Alaska each family member gets around $1000 a year from the perminet fund dividend that would be $5000 a year for a family of five! FREE!

Mo. will give you back just what you give it. Hate it and it will give you a reason. I love my little town of Leasburg. (pop 216) My monthly income is about 700.00 but with budgeting I have plenty. I would not live elsewhere even if I could have ten times the pay. I would guess that anywhere you lived you would find the same problems but I really hope things improve for you. Good luck.

I'll be kind and not name cities, but if you travel the US much, it is quite easy to find numerous towns that are in far more dire straits economically and with far less opportunity for a yound couple. St. Joseph is nowhere near the bottom 10% for example.

There is little doubt that St. Joe has its problems. It seems NAFTA affected them more than most.
