volvo 440 it smells of fuel when its been driven its not leaking that i can tell, if i put my head down by the back wheel i can hear a hissing sound until i loosen the petrol cap then alot of pressure is released even after a couple of minutes running ?? blocked breather does anyone know???

The vacuum issue may be the breather or a clogged vent tube (if Volvos use vent tubes for their tanks). The fuel smell sounds a lot like an issue I had with exhaust manifold leaking around an old seal. I had to have the seals replaced and now that fuel smell is gone.

if this car is fuel injected...which it most likely is...there is a fuel pressure valve on the fuel rail. These tend to leak and will give you the smell of petrol. Pop the hood and look at this item. If it is wet at all replace it.

Could be a blocked breather.

Sell it and get another, they're cheap enough.
