It’s really hard to say what type of Wicca your daughter is involved in. If you ask a Wiccan about Wicca you have to bear in mind that they are speaking of their_particular_brand_of_Wicca. Most Wiccans are solo Wiccans, and basically add beliefs and rituals in that they borrow from other religions and read from books. Of course, their own peculiar version seems harmless enough to them.

Certainly there could be some forms of Wicca that have a cult like structure. There are ceremonies in Wicca known as “Drawing Down The Moon” and “Drawing Down The Sun” in which the High Priestess and High Priest respectively become the goddess or god incarnate. Believe me, it’s hard to tell a deity (or at least someone masquerading as one) “no” to anything! There is at least one Wiccan “commune” in existence, and no doubt more, and it’s hard to imaging these groups aren’t cults.

“Frostie” (The Church of Wicca) Wicca has been described to me as little more than a polygamy cult. There are many things in the literature of that group, although not typical of most Wiccans, are certainly frightening to imagine. You can read my past answer about it. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqQPME0AwB8nw.xG_V6wIRLsy6IX?qid=20060920141547AA0e3fT

You did say she was “flighty”, so hopefully this is a phase she is going through. It’s a phase I went through in college, and eventually I left it behind. About two thirds of people who leave Christianity eventually return to it. Try to get as much education as you can on the subject, and keep in prayer.

Wicca is not a cult, and if she is following it truly, she will be following the wiccan rede - 'an it harm none'. Wicca is a nature honouring religion. They do not do 'black magic' or worship Satan. There is no Satan in Wicca.

Jenny - In response to the question you answered previously - I only noticed Dana S's question when she flamed me on another question, so I did a profile search on her and notcied the question she had asked. Unfortunately, I was too late ans the question had been resolved. I was outraged that it had not been taken off yahoo, and emailed Jo Frost, as you mentioned before to get some info on what Dana S had said, and as you suspected, she tried to cover it up, but without a copy of the book, I can't debate her words accurately enough, and when I ask her to tell me in detail about the 'coming of age' rites, she just tells me to buy the book, and even told me she would send me lecture material, if I paid for it!!!

I assure you, apart from my emails to Jo, I have no affiliation with them, and I live in the UK. Myself and Epona (who you may have seen here) have reported Dana S for her advocation to young girls on this site, stating that initiation can only conducted via sex! What rubbish! The Frosts are the only Wiccans I have ever heard of that have practiced such rites, and I have a library of material on Wicca and Witchcraft practices. I myself and eclectic, and don't ascribe to every single teaching in Wicca. It is also a falacy that you have to be part of a coven to be Wiccan.

Wow! I just read below that I got reported for giving Dana a hard time because she advocates incest?! How bizarre! And, I got accused of being a closet xtian?! That's got me rolling on the floor!! I only have one Ravenwolf book, and it's not that great.

I would never assume that I am a High Priestess or even a Wiccan by reading a few books. I have been at it ten years, and still don't know everything!

Having read the passages that you mention, I don't think I'll buy the book!

Wicca is not a cult. It is a religion like christian is a religion for people who want to worship Jesus. People who believe that wicca are an occult are the ones that are scared of what they don't know. If you truely believe in Jesus and have faith in him, than you should belive that he won't let your daughter come to harm, that no matter what, as long as you believe in him than he will protect her.

Now Wicca is a religion for people to practice sorcery, now don't panick. A good example of this is like you would pray to Jesus for guideness. A wiccan would do a spell to the god or/and goddess that they decided to worship. They can decide if they want one or more, meaning that there are alot of different creaturs than just one like Jesus.

What I suggest is that you get to know more about wicca from books. I recommend THE EVERYTHING WICCA AND WITCHCRAFT BOOK by Marian Singer. Not to get to be a wiccan too but to get to know more about what your daughter is doing. To be more into her life, not that I am saying that you are not, just that she will appreciate you more for trying to understand what she is doing.

Wicca is not satanic like most people believe. Satan is a Christian belief and Wicca is not Christian. There is nothing wrong with Christian, it's just that Wiccan don't have a source of evil. The true people, and I do mean true people who know what they are doing will tell you that wicca is all good. There are some that practice black magick, which isn't a color but a source. True wiccans are only white witches, meaning that they don't do evil in any such way.

I am telling you this from experience, I am a white witch who use to be a baptist. I frist prayed to Jesus telling him that I wasn't suited or comfrontable to being in just one god. Then I did a spell for me to get to know about witchcraft and it's type of religion. And from experience I can't be happier.

Also, if you would really study, there are even some spells that us real witches do that require us to take some type of scripture from the christian bible. Some Witches wear the pentacle, not the one inverted. The inverted one stand for a black witch. And some wear the pentacle and the cross.

But if you still have any more doubt you can contact me at catworkgreen@yahoo.com. So finally, just breath and because you have such good faith in your god, have no doubt that he won't let any danger come to your child.

Wicca isn't an evil religion. Its simply a different way of looking at Diety. They see diety as being a balance between Male and Female. Instead of just Father.

Many Wiccans are Christians and Wiccans, but it is not the majority.

The Wiccan Rede states "An Harm Ye None, Do what thou Will."

We are encouraged to accept and be friendly with people of all religions and treat them as equals. We don't preach or discriminate.

I will leave you some links about Wicca and what we are about.

I have been Wiccan for 8 years, if you have ANY questions about it. Feel free to ask, I won't be offended. Ask away. I like clearing up misconceptions and helping bridge the gap between Wiccans and Christians.

I have a great relationship with my Christian parents who know my religion and accept me for who I am. I accept that we don't see religoin in the same way, but that is what makes this world great. We have different experiences and different ways to look at the world. But we get along great.

More than likely she just made some wiccan friends and is now enjoying the chance to experience her life on her own terms. No need to panic unless she starts to get isolated or avoidant. Wicca is not a cult.

Oh my goodness no need to be worried. She's only doing what you taught her to do and that is think for herself. Wicca is NOT evil witchcraft. The site I've listed below might answer some of your questions.

There are far worse things a teenaged girl can get into right under your nose.

"Wicca" isn't any sillier (nor from now on clever) than Christianity, that is purely a set of steerage for the thank you to stay life at peace with the Universe, so i does no longer difficulty if I have been you. you incredibly should not be troubled approximately "cults", by making use of definition a cult is purely a company whose superstitions are distinctive on your guy or woman. in case you allowed your gut reaction to steer your strategies, you will probable be very stressful in the journey that your daughter grew to become into following a faith whose scripture mentioned that donkeys would desire to chat (Numbers 22:28), that girls who placed on trousers are an "abomination" (Deut.22:5) or whose "Messiah" preached that disobedient babies could be killed (!)(Mark 7:10), yet it incredibly is the "faith" you raised your toddler in!

Christianity is way more of a cult than Wicca. No worries. There are plenty of websites out there about it. just search for it. It might enlighten you though, so be careful.

Don't forget that most christian sybology was stolen from pagan and other earth worshiping religions.

how sheltered was she? did you hide her from the world? i went to a christian school from k-11th, (was happy to leave for my last year), around the end of school i found that more of the kids from the christian school were into drinking and drugs then those ive met at the public. theyve been exposed to it and been able to make up their minds. sheltering is so not the way to go. keeping in touch with those i went to school with long time ago, and none of them are really leading very fullfilling lives. there were by far many more real christians at the public school i went to. and you should worry if your going to force ur beliefs on her. she'll only rebel more

it could just be a phase- she may decide to rejoin your church or another one later on, or stick with this... but in general getting really upset & telling her no will just push her into it more.
wicca is an earth based religion that isn't "black magic" or satanic. you could think of it loosely like what native americans believe- a great spirit (God) and honoring nature.
I hope you can have some honest conversations with her in that you can learn why she is interested in other religious thoughts & keep the line of talk open, not angry.
I don't practice the faith I was raised with, but I can honor & respect it, and I could have a decent adult conversation with my parents about it if asked.
Good luck
