My friend has just had this done. She will be able to have children but will need to be monitored closely to make sure she is taking the correct supplements. The only problem i know of is that she will have to have a baby before she has any plastic surgery to remove excess stomach skin, as she will not be able to have a baby after this. Something to do with elasticity of the skin after plastic surgery i think. As your consultant he will be able to advise you.

Good luck to your wife, my friend had the operation a couple of weeks ago, she was in and out of hospital in 3 days and has lost 2 STONE already.

Please make sure you have both talked this through, she will need your support in the next 6 months when she is eating an egg cup full of liquidised chicken & mash. It is major surgery and she will be on a restricted diet with no sugar or alchol for the rest of her life. My friend accidentaly had something with suger in the other day and she was as high as a kite all afternoon!

Yes, you can definatley get pregnant after the surgery. It is highly recommended that you do not get pregnant within the first year to 18 month after surgery though, as you are barely getting enough nutrients for your own needs, let alone a baby, and therefore the baby can be effected and in the worst case be either mentally or pysically disabled. Also, once pregnant you need to be more careful than the average person, as extra nutrients and suppliments need to be taken on top of what you will be taking after the operation. You just need to see your doctor more often and have more regular check ups, thats all. But definately do not consider pregnancey until atleast a year after your op.

I would think so, but she would need to be more cautious about her diet to be sure she is getting the right nutrients for the baby. It is a question to ask the doc, but I would wait until after having the baby....and I would opt for Lap-Band. My friend's husband died four days after having Gastric Bypass surgery.....mortality rate is 1 in 400....that is WAY too high!

If you are in good health, you should be able to have a baby after this surgery - but not right away. If you were to become pregnant in the first 12 months following this surgery, it could harm your health and that of a developing fetus. It is strongly recommended that women wait at least one year after the surgery before a pregnancy.

I think you ought to be asking the doctor that question. She's already been through enough trauma, never mind putting her health and the health of an unborn baby at risk. Get professional answers.

She may struggle to eat a balanced diet because her stomach is so small.

Not sure what your question is exactly.........obviously it will not stop her becoming pregnant but for a healthly pregnancy she will have to eat a balanced diet.
