For over a year, I have had huge knots in between my shoulder blades. My husband sometimes will give me a massage, but he has to press so hard, sometimes with his elbows that it almost seems useless. What I do now that helps a little is sit at the corner of a small kid's table and press my shoulder blades into it. It hurts my skin, but relieves the tension a little. Any suggestions? I cannot afford professional massages, and I have two small children that I am always carrying around which I am sure attribute some to my problem (9mos and 2 years)...

Take your right arm and bend it behind your back, so your elbow is near your right ear, press down on your right elbow with your left hand, hold for twenty seconds then switch arms . Do three sets .
Stand a foot away from a wall , so your arm can touch the wall. Crawl your right arm up the wall until you can not go any higher, then hold. Turn around and do the left. When you pick your kids up or something else heavy , bend your knees and lift with your legs. Go to one pillow.

I get this too and I don't think that there is an easy answer. Check how you sit at your desk, feet flat on the floor and square on to a computer screen, keep your shoulders down and try and relax your back and definitely do not do the phone thing where you hold the phone to your ear with your shoulder! Jacuzzis work great for me or try some Radox in a hot bath just before bed, and maybe a glass of wine... or two.
