i am a co-owner of a vehicle. the person got the car for my use and i pay the note. the statement comes to my address. my name is on the title/registration and finance papers also so there are two owners. the only thing is that i dont live with the person and my address is listed as his. say he wants to take the car, he says the police will give him rights because it is registered to his address. now i dont live with him so its kinda scary. also he is holding on to the tags, says hes in no rush to give them to me. the temps dont expire until november of this year. im guessing thats why he is in no rush. can i ask him to transfer in my name only since he has nothing to do with the payments?

He would have to sign the car over to you and he sounds like he is not all that willing to do so.

You are co-owners so anything you do with the car, likely will need to involve him unless he signs it over to you solely

How on earth did you get into such a load of crap? If this situation is combative you will be money ahead to hire a lawyer right now. This is the only way you are going to keep from waking up one morning and finding your car has been taken by this bozo. Since he is also the owner this is NOT theft, at least not until the judge says it is. You do not want to go down this rocky road unless necessary.

The police will not give him the vehicle because you are both co-owners. He is lying...if does not matter you reside, you are still co-ower. Contact you local police they will confirm and also tell you what you should do legally.

Hope this helps
