OK - Here's what I do.

Find somewhere away from excessive noises like TVs, screaming kids, etc. It could be sitting on a park bench, or laying on your bed. Either way, don't do this anywhere that you need to to concentrate (like riding a bike, etc).

1. Close you eyes.
2. Imagine you're sitting at the edge of a corn-field and you are looking over the field towards the horizon.
3. Concentrate on the corn and try to relax your breathing to a steady normal state.
4. Examine the corn - is it swaying in the breeze? Can you feel the breeze on your face? Is the sun shining and does the corn make shadows? Can you see/hear birds in the corn field?

Concentrate on the corn swaying in the breeze (And nothing else!) for about 10 minutes and you'll be good to go for about 2 hours.

That always works for me. It's also pretty good for helping you to get to sleep when you're stressed out and panicking and cannot unwind to sleep.

FRESH AIR. Hands down...nothing better...go take a power walk out in the fresh air. If it's raining where you are today - get out there anyway - take an umbrella...open a window, etc.
A cold shower will do it for me sometimes too...

Those things work better for me "to clear the mind" that yoga or meditation...just get some oxygen to the brain by walking in the fresh air.

Try meditation. Sit or lie in a quiet place, close your eyes and concentrate on something that makes you feel good, the beach, mountains, flowers, even a word or picture that calms you. When thoughts come into your mind, release them like a helium balloon and watch them float away and refocus on that place. Do this for about 15 minutes and you should feel refreshed. You can also listen to relaxation tapes, soft classical music, etc.

Meditation

Meditating is actually easier than you might imagine. Most of us have dabbled in meditation by participating in conscious relaxation. Maybe during an exercise class or to manage pain at the dentist or anxiety before a test. We start by paying attention to our breathing. The practical effort to focus completely on our breathing takes our minds away from the "mind clutter" that constantly tries to invade our mind and eliminate feelings that will lead to a time of calm. With repeated effort the goal of clearing your mind – to think of nothing, does occur and the process of meditation takes on its own energy. The result is, and I guarantee this, peace, serenity, calmness, eventually opening yourself to new insights.

Take a short 10 minute walk.

If you can't get out for that - just take a few minutes to concentrate on your breathing. Take slow, even, deep breaths.

Count to 5 slowly on the inhale & blow it all out - do this once or twice.
Then count to 5 on the inhale & the exhale - do this 4+ times.

It's a quick pick me up you can do at your desk (or in the bathroom stall if you think it may be noticed)

Try to remember you can fix whatever has gone wrong. Just hang in there and keep at it.

Best of luck!

Oh, man! I feel for you because I've been there many, many times! Is there any way you could take a walk in the fresh air before you begin to study? I've always found that breathing fresh air and a brisk walk (it doesn't have to be a very long walk) prepares me mentally and physically for a long stretch of sitting and focusing. I hope all goes well for you - God bless!

Yoga, Tai Chi and/or meditation each do a good job of helping you clear your mind and achieve focus.

If that doesn't work, try a good single malt scotch...

Erase it. But as you have to study, getting drunk isn't an option for today. Maybe you should just hang out on "Yahoo Answers" for awhile and answer as many inane questions as you can handle. Works for me!
